B i guess
might come back to this....
might come back to this....
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Re: CC Round 6 Match 8
I quite liked A. It had a nice sleazy, grungey groove to it.
As for B, this is far duller than Iggy Pop doing 'Shakin' All Over' has any right to be.

Both appalling messes. B, I guess.

I came close to enjoying A with its erotic Berlin cabaret vibe, but it tries too hard for a dark sound I think and rather overdoes all the abrasive techno elements.
Iggy can do this sort of thing in his sleep (and probably did). It's not as exciting as it thinks.
A is more interesting.

I love Gudrun Gut, she's pretty much the first lady of Neue Deutsche Welle, having practically kickstarted the genre with Mania D and Malaria!, and has never received the recognition due. How many women in their mid 50s do a tech house cover of Tina Turner's worst song, and make it work like this?
I nearly chose Bauhaus' "Rosegarden Funeral of Sores" for this cup, which is a cover of John Cale's lyrically modified cover of "Shakin' All Over". All three tracks in that pathway are superb, and show how you can tweak great source material, make something new, but keep the integrity of the original present. This sounds like something Primal Scream would do.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Re: CC Round 6 Match 8
Hmm, we have discussed about acceptability of certain picks. Honestly I have more problems with things like A that change the song so much that makes it impossible to identify. I wouldn't buy the original, and this version is just a senseless mess.
B is poor but acceptable, which is much more than A.

A can't sing and is using cool old footage rather than bothering to come up with anything. Too cool for its own good.

Re: CC Round 6 Match 8
a - This is a song that's so familiar the only way to cover it is to disembowel it. I quite like the slippery, sleazy backing on this, and, unlike Thang-y, don't mind the spoken vocals - it's not as if there's much of a tune to ignore after all, and keeping things at spoken word level strips out a lot of the bombast. 4.5 / 10
b - The original is the greatest British pop single of the 1960s. This one is twice as long and a twentieth as exciting. Pop's voice isn't suited, and whoever's wanking the frets needs to learn a thing or two from Mick Green. A truly dreadful desecration of one of the greatest two minutes in the history of rock & roll
2 / 10
