A sucks the grit and spirit out of a great song. I do not enjoy the filtration process.

Damn, I was expecting A to be Sophie Ellis-Bextor or whatever her name is. This is van Morrison, or a similar fat grumpy man in an ill fitting raincoat. Feels very worthy. Like they've practiced for years to learn how to learn how to play their instruments, not realising that all they were destined to achieve was abuse from a portly middle-aged computer programmer, bored at his desk.

I'm going to appear all cultured and shit now, and pretend that I knew that the original of "The Changing David" was released by Mina, under the title Se Telefonado. It's exactly the same though, isn't it? I don't see the point of this.

A

I don't mind A. Better to remake it in the Euro-jazzy way that they do than half-assedly try to duplicate Screamin' Jay's menace or Nina Simone's hypnotism.

That said, B is lovely, and being that I'm unfamiliar with the original, straight or no, it does what it's supposed to do - interest me in both performer and song.

I love Audience's treatment of this with the guitar and flute. Plus Howard Werth is the most underrated blue-eyed soul vocalist out there. Great pick.

I liked Hardy's vocal, but I'm not so keen on the song.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

A starts off quite fey, I come around to start liking it but then the voice wrecks it.

I'm feeling B today more than usual, for various reasons.

A has some nice things happening in the arrangement but gets a bit too shouty and the singer is a second-rate Van Morrison.
B is gorgeous, so much so that I once used it in the BCB Cup myself.

The arrangment of A is fairly alluring but the whole thing is rather overwrought. B is not as memorable but it's a more pleasant listen overall. Hmmm

A is great but I could have done without the thoughtful outro.

Both interesting picks. A takes this one for me.

Oh for fuck's sake
a- ooh, a Reg band doing Jay/Nina/fuck, even the Animals [sharpens hatchets and knives] Oooh, a flute, that's minus two right there. And a wretched nice middle class white boy pretending to have feelings vocal. What a terrible tool. Oooh, a sax, there's authenticity. Seriously, this is a dreadful novelty wanker's version of a great song, that pisses all over it in the name of musical fart-arsiness. All skilled up and nothing to say, the very essence of Reg. I could only imagine it being worse if King Crimson had made it, or maybe a guest rap from David Nixon. But since that's not going to happen (Dog Willing), I feel confident in awarding it the points it truly deserves 0 /10
b - No idea what the original of this is, but it doesn't matter, really. This has nothing I like, but it only needs to turn up and not sodo mize a classic to win, so I don't have to listen to it. 0.5 / 10
