While I agree that context is all, there are easier ways of accessing past zeitgeists than time travel.
1. Never seen a Hollywood movie from the 30s and 40s, G? No cultural experience of prohibition, speakeasies, etc.?
2. Never been drunk and acted in a puerile fashion, or seen anyone else do it? Little more timeless than that.
3. Never enjoyed a hooligan taking down a stuffed shirt with ridicule? 'No longer slinking,/Respectably drinking,/Like civilized ladies and men?'

Never done the FunkyWalk, G?
Huh? Huh?!

I love Spike Jones, and that he inspires such fervent, even desperate defense is great too.

But for fuck's sake!
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

It's a point of view, Speedy, no matter how wrong, but if you're saking fucks, look what it's up against? Lamer than a quadriplegic donkey, stripping a song down to its riff to no purpose – certainly no good purpose – and dispensing with the vocals completely. It's a fucking travesty! And all because a load of ovine fops want to mope about a dancefloor without compromising the hang of their trousers.
Pshaw, sirrah, and Fie!

My dad loves Spike Jones, so I'm almost willing to vote for it. But no. Penk is spot on: B is nothing more than a R&B groover but is simply more to my taste - my 47 year old modern ears - than A, which is a novelty I'd never listen to twice.

I imagine a blaxploitation-version of Wayne's World with Dana Carver's character doing the dance in the diner and B being the soundtrack....
I like the Spike Jones-slapstick sound to a degree and I'm most definitely from after 1953... but it's a

B is just too er... earnest, while A is a real classic, on of his best!

So am I reading this as a vote for B or an abstain?

I'm pretty sure it's three votes for B
Maybe four, just in case.
