Now these are a bit less obvious. The FNM is a fairly straight attempt at the original - not really bringing anything new and I'm already going to be "harsh but fair" when that happens. You can't accuse the Kidjo of that although I'm not sure Morcheeba's take on Hendrix was something we needed. Pretty hard to call, this.

A is a hopeless pick. B feels a little too overproduced, but is pleasant enough.

Not sure if A was meant to be a tribute or a joke (npi). In either case I see it failed. B is a well done unexpected reading of a classic, the kind of thing I'm looking forward to in this comp.

On first hearing, I liked the sound of B. But then I played it again. I don't know, it's a bit smooth and schticky for the song. Sorry.

B despite Martin Freeman in A, didn't want to listen to either all the way through though

Ah, bugger, another one where I have to sit through the original first. Which I wouldn't normally mind, but I can do without The Bee Gees saccharine warbling. Is that string section from Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways"? Anyway, Faith No More's version is fairly straight and dull, though you can just imagine Mike Patton's smug face gurning away throughout the recording, there appears to be that hint of mockery, but you can't tell because the wanker's voice always sounds like that.

At least B is doing a more radical rework of a song I don't have to sit through twice, even if she's doing so in a kind of VH1 way, with lots of burbling synth presets applied. Lets face it, it doesn't feature Mike Patton, it does something more with the song, and the original song was better. It's a walk over.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

What is going on with A? Why is Martin Freeman in a Faith No More video? Oh well, the song is OK, unlike B, which sounds like a TV producer wrote it to soundtrack a scene in which characters meet to chat and laugh in a trendy wine bar in 2003.

Both are fucking awful. I like FNM on the whole, but this is shit.
Voodoo Chile (SR at least) should rock-the-fuck out of its box and make you wanna jump in the air and scream.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Don't think much of either of these. A is a straight cover of a song I've never been crazy about that does nothing new with it, although it's well-sung. If it was a bar band I might be impressed. For a band trying to establish their own identity, not so much.

B is pretty much a Public Radio Primer, but as D_Fish points out, at least it does something.

Unfortunate match.

I really dig Angélique Kidjo's reappropriation of Voodoo Chile.

But the unpredictable Mike Patton is one of my heroes (Mr. Bungle and Mondo Cane in particular) and this OTT version of the Bee Gees' kitsch anthem is just great (the video too).

A was too similar to the original, B offered an interpretation of mild interest. B
