Yup. I want to start it here on Sunday night, Australian time, that would make it Sunday morning in Europe. Fortunately it is not much work to put up the ties.
I have two lists already so two more to go.

Well, after going through all the matches it seems to me that someone has decided to just shit the CC finals bed; it's a free world and to each their own, but i think it's a bit of a shame to be honest.

Congrats Count Machuki- the inaugural winner of the Covers Cup! And well done to Penk, Copehead and Hugh for an entertaining and slightly controversial Finals-series!

Thanks for voting and commenting!

Well done, Count! Some great tunes chosen.

Penk - Sesame St?? What were you thinking? Well played though to get to finals, Hugh and Copey too.

And big thanks to n/e for running the show. Cheers man.

I was thinking that I’d pick one that is a lot of fun and that is a smart reinvention that vastly improves on the original song!
I also figured that I’d show people how to do novelty covers the right way. I’m actually pissed off it lost: I thought it a much better pick than the tournament’s 472nd soul/funk Beatles cover... ;)

:o  :o

Thank you to the Academy BCB. You know, there's one place that all the people with the greatest potential are gathered. One place and that's the graveyard. People ask me all the time, what kind of stories do you want to tell, Viola Machuki? And I say, exhume those bodies. Exhume those stories. The stories of the people who dreamed big and never saw those dreams to fruition. People who fell in love and lost. I became an artist a BCBer—and thank God I did—because we are the only profession group of weirdos that celebrates what it means to live a life.

So, here's to August Wilson never/ever, who exhumed and exalted the ordinary people. And to Bron Pictures, Paramount, Macro, Todd Black, Molly Allen for being the cheerleaders for a movie Cup List that is about people. And words music. And life and forgiveness and grace. And to Michael T. Williamson, Stephen McKinley Henderson, for being the most wonderful artists I've ever worked with.

And oh captain, my captain, Denzel Washington rayge.

Thank you for putting two entities in the driving seat: August never/ever and God. And they served you well. And to Dan and Mary Alice Davis, who were and are the center of my universe, the people who taught me good or bad, how to fail, how to love, how to hold an award, how to lose. My parents―I'm so thankful that God chose you to bring me into this world. To my sisters, my sister Dolores, we were rich white women in the tea party games. Thank you for the imagination. And to my husband and my daughter. My heart, you and Genesis. You teach me every day how to live, how to love, I'm so glad that you are the foundation of my life. Thank you to the Academy BCB. Thank you.

I see this not as a victory for Machuki, but as a validation for 3rd wave ska. See what madness you have wrought.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Thanks, man, and thanks to everybody who played and voted.

I know this is the second cheesiest Cup ever organized (RIP Bizarro Cup) but I'm proud of my list. I've always been interested in cover songs - for me it's just about the best way to learn about music. You track down the originals, hear other stuff by that same artist, get an idea of influences...it's like following clues.God bless a good cover song (and a bunch of lucky draws, too!)

Here's the list in full:

Sly & the Family Stone - Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)

Gino Washington - Foxy Walk

Thane Russal & Three - Security

The Slits - Heard It Through the Grapevine

The Dells - All Your Goodies Are Gone

First Aid Kit - America

Teengenerate - Mignight to Six Man

Ros Seresyothea - Komlos Sey Chaom (Love God)

Uncle Tupelo - I Wanna Be Your Dog

Alex Chilton - Boogie Shoes

Wilson Pickett - Sugar Sugar

The Five Stairsteps - Dear Prudence

You can convince yourself all you want Ed, but no one with any taste is going to want to listen to Miss Piggy over Curtom at their best. Your attempts on the thread to try and argue that A was the superior track were laughably desperate!
Sill it's the taking part that counts. ;)
