I like David Bedford arrangements usually, but there's not much going on in B, really.

Nonetheless it's a billion times better than A which fits into a very proggy pattern: ponderous shit>solo>more ponderous shit> solo> variation> stretch it out artificially > more ponderous shit> more solos. Quite a trial to get through considering I didn't like any of the parts individually and they didn't fit together well either. I'm Broad Church because this is the alternative.

A is the kind of track that gives prog rock a bad reputation. Abysmal.
B was starting to bring bad memories from school days until Oldfield's guitar came in. Much better, then.

A is everything I love about prog. Great vocals (what a voice!) great guitar solos and wonderful keyboard and it's all extended into something you can really get your teeth into.

Ok you probably need an extra level of brainpower to last it out, it ain't exactly disposable 3 minute whoosh in and out of your empty head type of music, but it's worthy of full focus and attention if you are capable of giving it.

Its come to this. A choice between an awful Pink Floyd cover band or something even drearier than Tubular Bells.

i do like parts of A, particularly the last section that gets downright melodic and nice for an extended period. i also hafta admit that much of it sounds disjointed, too much off-chordiness (i will call it that becuz i can). i can love that sort of thing, but it doesn't connect with me as much as it should. too much herky jerkying around and not enough glue. they might very well have other stuff i can get into more.

i thought B was very nice in its low-key way.
