Re: PP2017 Round 6 Match 2
I have to vote for one of these, don't I? What a choice. I tend to blame the likes of Parsons for a lot of overemoting dull modern prog. I imagine he's a Steven Wilson fan and vice-versa. Doesn't speak well for either of them.
B is dull for at least 6 of its 9 minutes, and I'm not even sure I find what it does in the other 3 very pleasant, particularly, but it does have a bit of variety. So as not to abstain...

I have always found APP extremely bland and A is no exception. For me his riskless approach is as far from prog as it can be, even if in its surface it could be seen as part of the prog scene. B is the second track in this cup from that album. It is not as interesting as the previous one, but anyway it gets my vote.

Alan is a chubby buffoon. HIs band are the aural equivalent of overcooked porridge. Stodgy and lacking taste. I quite like Greene's solo at the end though.
Is that an electric glockenspiel at the beginning of B? For fucks sake. The rest of the 'tune' sounds like it was composed and played by someone who had a hand/chainsaw incident as a child.

I like the studio version of Breakdown rather than this live one and regard I Robot as APP's best album, and perhaps a bit of a guilty pleasure.
I enjoyed B, a bit monotonous but monotonous in a good way if such as thing is possible, and it featured lots of repetitive keyboard sounds that I'm a sucker for.

i find myself torn here. this happens to me often.
i, robot is my fave APP album, and i wouldn't even classify it as a *guilty* pleasure. mwhaha. i love it unabashedly. that album sounded like a remaster before remasters, if you follow me. i prefer the studio as well, although i thought the live breakdown was fine.
meanwhile, B was groovy. those keys almost had a.. a... frippian quality to the way they moved. i don't know if i can describe it. at times mathmetical, cycling variations, or sumthin like that. i did get caught up in it, although it took a bit. then it all got downright freaky (in a good way). so yeah, it has its interesting components, and it is a track i would revisit.
ummm...
A. but it's a tight call. i think B is one of those tracks i need to process further.

I'm in agreement with hatz on Parsons, though will add the caveat that they kinda hold a nostalgic place in my heart because they were the first act I saw live. B, though, is a great chamber piece.

Hey, a soul brother! Someone picked the Belgians I had in round 1 and even dared to submit a longer track!

What C said, although I saw them do it live twice quite well.
