Another good match between two well-known entities. Both of these work for me for different reasons: A is prime Van der Graaf Generator, very energetic and combative, while B is very mellow and pretty, with Phil's delivery more confident than his "More Fool Me" period but not yet entering the downwards spiral into the horrible pop icon he'd become. Today I'm feeling more A though.

Again, as with Match 4, I find B much easier on the ears. Squawky woodwinds don't make it for me.

Well, it seems that the round gets going after the first three disappointing matches. B is a fantastic track with a wonderful melody and very tasteful arrangement and singing. A shows VDGG in full gear and this live take of the George Martin tune is much more lively and energetic than the known studio one (sound quality could be better though). With apologies to the excellent B

Hmm, bit odd to me that we're seeing so much VDGG, and it's mostly about their odd one-offs rather than their 'classic' tracks. I like A a lot, but mainly because it adds some variety amidst the heaviness of the main stuff. Self-standing, it seems slight and an odd choice.

B, on the other hand, is gorgeous, and shows pretty definitively what he brought to early Genesis - some of which they kept thereafter. Lovely singing too - makes me want to explore his catalog further.

B is that horrible genre of Pastoral Pixie Prog. Risible lyrics, weedy delivery and a longing for bees and mud. I bet he still wears pixie boots. Twonk.
As if one sax wasn't enough for VDGG we get 2 and a drummer better suited to trash metal.
A it is then.

VDGG freak out against cool early genesis sounds. Unfortunately, Phillips just hasn't enough parts to beat VDGG

welllll, i love both of these. a great match-up.

ultimately, i agree with hatz on B... i think it's gorgeous. i will let that carry the day, but that is no slight to A.

i do love this cup (bitches).

Two top tracks, difficult to choose but Phillips doesn't get enough love on BCB so I'll give this one to him.

Normally, I wouldn't vote against Van der Graaf Generator, but for some reason I'm really in the mood for that Anthony Phillips song. I also surprisingly liked Phil Collins' vocal delivery on it. He didn't sound like absolute ass for once. Apologies, I had to get in at least one Phil Collins attack since I voted for him against VdGG. Going with B here.
