I kinda knew which one I was gonna vote for before having heard either choice, but I still gave Steven Wilson the benefit of the doubt. It's not bad but it is riding a fine line with its gloomy emotionality and does eventually devolve into an Evanescence song. The Zoyd track in contrast is also dense and dark but in a fashion that is much more combative, creative and nowhere as tacky. B

Re: PP2017 Round 4 Match 2
It's honestly a complete mystery why someone would want to go to that much trouble to create either of these. I feel bad that they obviously put so much work into something that holds so little interest to me as a listener. But then, they're clearly not making it for me. Just not sure what they get out of it.
There were a few slightly engaging parts to B, to damn it with the faintest praise possible. If this is what I'm missing in not being much of a prog fan, good. I'm feeling better about my life already. Though I wish i could have the last half hour back.

I think B falls more into the contemporary classical (oxymoron) music cathegory than anything related to rock. Anyway it is a fine piece that probably would be better appreciated in a different environment than this cup. I have enjoyed both tracks but
A is more my thing.

Hey Steve! Get off the pretentiousness turnpike and get over yourself. You video is risible and the cod-emotional portent deeply annoying.
I got through till 12'40 on the Art Wank thing. Sounds like a Noggin The Nog soundtrack with a soupçon of Clangers.
Mmm SOUP!
B.

B is really nice is parts but also annoying in other parts but on the whole a very decent slice of contemporary classical.

Not that I have anything personally against Steven Wilson, and have heard many of his albums solo/Porcupine Tree. All this in mind, means that I would have trouble voting in favor of his music while in song contest with a band like Art Zoyd. I've always considered them among the more creative post-1975 prog acts, so to speak. Clearly B wins here for me. It's utterly fantastic prog.

funny, isn't it... how some people's "cod-emotional" or "tacky" ends up being this woman's home hit. routinely.

I gave B a chance, but it just isn't my kind of thing at all. Took forever to get going and then didn't go anywhere.

I am terribly biased but I listened to the Zoyd in full just to be surprised... didn't quite happen for me.
