B might overstay its welcome, but it's a damn better listen than A. At least it has *some* blood running through its veins.

Yeah, A's disappointing. I like Mr. Leavell's playing usually, but that meanders. In fact I'd say it's A that overstays its welcome, even at half the running time.

I concur with the B vote. It's jammy, but much more engagingly so.

Not sure what previous posters have heard in B but I'm not getting it. Purely average guitar noodling for 14 min without a single relevant moment not to mention a purpose. I'll go for the real tune, well constructed, with a worked arrangement and a groove.

I don't get the vitriol poured on A - it works pretty darn well to me.

Still, I found B to be right up my street, great guitar groove going on there.

I can't confidently vote for either one. I find A to be straight up horrendous. It's the shorter track of the two, in terms of actual length, but it certainly feels like the longer one. B is an alright Heavy Psych jam. It's all been done before and done in a far superior manner, but at least it has some style unlike A. Going with B here.

Where has it been done in a far superior manner? I wouldn't mind hearing that I have to say!

It's not a genre that I'm an expert on or anything, but I've heard better Heavy Psych from albums (you may have heard some of these as well) such as Sea Shanties by High Tide, Captain Beyond's s/t debut, and Pescado 2 by Pescado Rabioso.

I'd never thought of Sea Level as prog, but come to think of it, its makes sense. Basically a groovy latin-flavoured fusion piece, it has a lot of different parts and textures, guitar effects and a moog solo, There are some really nice touches, like the soprano sax and the slowed-down piano arpeggios towards the end. But then, I've always been a fan of this Allman Bros. spin-off project and this is one of their finest moments.

I can't fathom how anyone (except the usual suspects) can prefer this joyous and inventive jewel to B's seemingly endless stoned sludgefest.

I thought A was some interesting experimental shit, until I realised I had youtube open in another window playing a James Brown track at the same time. Damn, it turns out that it was just another meandering muzak thing.

B is boring.

Nothing to see here.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

i agree with neige on the sea level track. but i also have a great fondness for heavy psych and some majorly acidic gweetar.

the problem for me is that B most definitely outstays its welcome. i was so happy when it finally sped up some, cuz my own acidic trip was gettin kinda ludey and laden. not that i can't be in that mode on occasion, but it wore on me. sea level didn't. i would even call it... jaunty.

It's great (all three Pescado albums are)! :)
