A is PFM being PFM, not bad this time, I have heard much worse from them. In fact this track is quite well built, although tit would be better without the slow parts. But B is far more interesting with a very attractive arrangement, including that slightly odd instrumental interlude. Definitely a band I have to explore further.

Cardiacs is a band I've been meaning to check out for a while, and I quite liked what I heard in B. I've never been too big on PFM, and A, while not bad per se, hasn't really made me reconsider my position. B it is.

A has an amusing kitchen sink approach, which usually does prog well. Some cheesy moments too but enough humor that it works. Bonus for being under 5 minutes.
B is for Bowie, apparently - not that he's a bad model, but they don't do much beyond it.

. Got Jimi's autograph after the show and went on to see him several times that year

B is a bouncy and colorful breath of fresh air.

A - the classic PFM song
The Cardiacs song tries too hard to be something and ends up just a big sloppy mess. also annoying vocals and too many odd sections.

Perhaps I've read Football365 too often, but PFM will always be Proper Football Man in my books. Despite all the twizziness of the synth and the other woodwind, knobs, smoke and mirrors, it's a very trad rock song under the hood. An Austin Allegro with a neon tube, spoiler, and bucket exhaust.
The Cardiacs are coming on like a quirky Boo Radleys, and deserve to be publicly scorned. That really is wretched.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

B isn't quite as appalling as I feared.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

A is my kinda prog in many respects, packed full of freaky things, different movements, fantastic gweetar, mellotron bits, change-ups. i lovvvve it.
B does have its bouncy, weird, appealing side... another nice off-the-wall pick... but not enough ooomph for me to win out here.

Re: PP2017 Round 3 Match 2
How PFM is two votes behind at this point is a universal mystery....
Pontificating incorrigibly since birth.
