Most of A was excellent but there were some silly fragments that nearly killed it. B, while falling clearly more in the psychedelic side of things, is a nice little thing that doesn't offend but leaves no traces. Forgetting the silly pieces and with no much enthusiasm

B has a fantastic bass hook, but A is better overall.

You can expect some silliness coming from a band called Gryphon, and all silliness considered it's a pretty enjoyable track. B's prog credentials might be more in question, but it's a great track all the same.

I tend to not go past the first three Gryphon albums, and here's why. This is just a dull rock track. None of their twee medievalisms, which I love. B is in the wrong cup, but I'd much rather listen to it than A.

A is rubbish, isn't it? It's a shit Barclay James Harvest song with silly bits from 1970s children's telly sewn into the lining.

B is a vaguely annoying light psyche-pop song with a nice jazz-owl.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

The vocals in A are incredibly annoying. They remind me of Eric Idle from Monty Python without any of the timing or wordplay.
B isn't very exciting but at least it's listenable.

B wins.

I found A mostly annoying but I have liked some other stuff by Gryphon that I've liked so clearly they are capable of better. B was perfectly pleasant.

You can't spell prog without progressive ... or something like that.

B could win in a 60's pop-psych cup, but A's more interesting (and I love a funky bassoon freak-out, me.)

I had a Gryphon lp once. I couldn't get past the ridiculous posturing on the cover. On listening to the 'music' I found myself transported to a time of Black Death and beheading which frankly, is too good for those twonks.
B is enlivened by what appears to be someone with a wobble-board. The singing is atrocious. It has the advantage of being completely unmemorable.
B.

i do like that poets track, i do. and i do understand the criticisms of the gryphon track. i look at it this way: it's one thing when peter gabriel goes off on his more... er... theatrical persona-playing vocals (and i still have probs with some of those episodes, even though i generally love gabe-era genesis). it's another when the gryphon singer does it here. it sounds much more disjointed and unsmooth to me in this track. not as glued together properly.

that being said, a good bit of the gryphon track is groovy. i would even say that the last, oh, minute and a half is miles above the poets. i'll take gryphon.

Despite going almost-full-blown-wrong-side-of-Gentle-Giant in one section early on, I like the rest of A much more than B.

Not the best Gryphon song but I'll take it A

The Poets tune is nice listening to more of their stuff now.

I don't like my Prog wacky but B is a bit shite so against all instincts I'm voting for something I don't really like.
