Sorry B, nice try, but after the gorgeus A, in spite of its overfamiliarity, the Charlie Rich track felt too lightweight.

Nope, you shouldn't be allowed to get to the finals using ANY top 5 US hits. There's a great big world out there, and Charlie Rich plays an important part in it. The Everlys are great, but I already knew that.
That's a great big B.
That's a great big B.

. Got Jimi's autograph after the show and went on to see him several times that year

Of course 'Susie' is great, but this is a match-up that allows me to give the underdog a fair trial, and B is not found wanting. Rich's catalogue is one i'm revisiting at the moment thanks to this comp. and B is a little gem.

B's really good. But it isn't Susie. Sure Susie's obvious as fuck....

I love the Charlie Rockabilly era. The Everlys are a bit to Vanilla in this company.

a - well of course this is familiar, and everyone should know by now how I revere the Everlys, although I'm not as enamoured of their 50s stuff as I am of their Warner Brothers 1960s' material. And the song, while fun, is a bit slight. Props though to Don's guitar playing throughout. 6./5 / 10
b - yet again, a Sun production lifts a track. Love those handclaps. With those piano stylings, it's more R&B than rockabilly. In fact, it has a real New Orleans sound, reminded of Huey Smith and the Clowns. Damn fine vocals too. Bit of an abrupt fade, that suggests someone fucked up, but that's a fine track. 6.5 / 10
Unpredictably, I'm going for B
