A is OKish, a bit repetitive to my taste. And certainly far far away from that wonderful Gary Bonds gem.

Love Dave Appell but its his work with Charlie Gracie I'm more familiar with. That and the co-write for Lets Twist Again. This track is nothing special to these ears but is pleasant enough.
B features sax from the great Gene Barge and that's good enough for me.

Meh, A's OK.
I've probably already heard B enough for one lifetime, but the first hundred times or so it was pretty special.

. Got Jimi's autograph after the show and went on to see him several times that year

A is a very pleasant noise indeed! But as a tune, B is hard to beat for me.

Re: R&R Cup '17 - The Finals, Match 2
Well here's some weird shit: both Quarter to Three by Gary Bonds and the original John Zacherle Dinner with Drac were on the Dawg's shortlist for the first round, with the first rejected because I didn't think Daddy G's take on saxing would be a winner, and the second because I'm still stinging from the last time I used a so-called 'novelty' record in a cup.
A - Zacherle's Dinner with Drac is basically a novelty record, though, which I valued for its instrumental backing, rather than JZ's hammy fronting, particularly the sax (of course), but while this is recognizably the same performers, arguably the same track (it sounds a bit different, but one's a you-tube vid and the other's a 60-year-old tri-centre piece of vinyl on London American) but it doesn't for some reason sound as good as it does squirting out from behind Z's nonsense rhymes. 5.5 / 10
B - Gene Barge was something else, wasn't he? A real hero of mine. His solo makes the record. I've heard this a zillion times, and I'm a little blown out on it to tell the truth. 5.5 / 10
A because it doesn't deserve the kicking it's getting

Neither rocks my world, but I'll vote A, I guess.
