I've always loved At the Hop, but prefer the wild Sha-Na-Na version from Woodstock, to tell the truth. This is quite nice, but so... clean-cut and well-behaved.

a - Danny and the Juniors were always a bit too white for me. I mean, At the Hop had a nice groove and vocal interplay, but this one tries to copy it and falls flat on its face. In fact, few records about rock & roll and it's thousand-year Reich do – off-hand, the only one I can think of that I might play with enjoyment is It Will Stand. Crap vid and performance too. And Rock & roll doesn't wear ties. 3.5 / 10
b - No-one these days mentions Lloyd as one of the great rock & rollers, but with tracks such as this, Lawdy Miss Clawdy, Where Were You on Our Wedding Day? and Personality, he has a much better case to be regarded as such than Johnny Burnette, for instance. As it happens, this is the first version of Stack o Lee I ever heard, and the only problem, I have with it is how quickly it fades out as the tenor man gets into his stride. Although quite why we need 30 seconds of silence to contemplate that in this video I'm not sure. 6 / 10
