Well, I like the Lucozade advert bit in B, but unfortunately there's more than 6 minutes to go after that.

A is just as great as all the early Napalm Death stuff. As it becomes increasingly unlikely that I'm going to have to pick stuff for the final, I can reveal that I was going to choose an hour long version of You Suffer by Kylie Minoise. Your loss.

Just what I was thinking... Needs to be the advert edit really. Maiden at their very best though to be fair. And Eddie looked proper scary on the cover too. I thought he started to look a bit wet after the first outing.

Napalm Death were good fun live back in the day. Me and Big Bro Copehead saw them in the old little Zap Club on Brighton beach. I took a pummelling and destroyed a good pair of baseball boots, but well worth it.

This choice is a bit of a ballad by their standards isn't it? Mind you I'm no expert, perhaps their tunes started to stretch out a little later in their career? Still

A very difficult choice, 2 personal favourite songs.

B for its musicality over the ferociousness of A

Love the twin guitars on Maiden as well, one of my favourite rock music tropes.

A was loud alright and mercifully short, but I preferred the guitar pyrotechnics in B

Kicking off the round with a big bagful of "that's more fucking well like it". This album does have so much more crunch and power than its more famous predecessor, but it's one I rarely listen to, probably because I only have a cassette copy somewhere. What can you say, Napalm Death in their proper grindcore era, it's a thing of much majestic beauty.

I'm of the opinion that this is the best track Iron Maiden ever recorded, but that's based on my early teen existence, rather than any listening experience in the last couple of decades or so. And I think it's fairly obvious that even my teenage self preferred grindcore. I don't recall this lighter passage of music at all, I only remember those twin guitars doing the dinnly-da-dinnly-da-dadada thing. This is edging close to prog, and I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck drooping. Damn you Daley Thompson, I could never have broken my joystick to this. It's going to get back to the song again soon, I can feel it. Actually, I think I could probably still listen to this. But it's no Napalm Death.

Right, I'm definitely going to have to check that out. It must be on youtube, right?

Course it is - it's a bit low bitrate though, and doesn't really do it justice.

Deebank - there's a song on Scum that's more than twice as long as From Enslavement To Obliteration.

I wish there hadn't been so much Maiden up to this point; I suspect I could really enjoy B if I didn't go in with an instinctive eye roll. But it is 7 freaking minutes long, and there are parts to it that I spend looking at my imaginary watch.

A ain't much, but that's one thing that's so great about it. They just give you a sample of their heavy wares but don't beat you over the head with it.

30 years ago I believed ND were a joke; a joke you had to be in on to see the humour. I still believe that.
30 years ago I saw humour in Maiden, but it wasn't an in-joke; it was fun that everyone could enjoy and have a good time with, with some great melodies, harmonies, and GOOD SONGS. I still believe that.
