Two real favourites. I picked Moanin' myself in a BCB cup a few years back. It reminds of jazz dance sessions at Dingwalls all those years ago. This one was always one of the big tunes.

Whoo doggy, this is a tough choice.

I'm feeling a little funky this morning, though, so I'll throw my vote to B.

I've been loving Moanin' for a long time, but it feels a little obvious in this context like picking You Really Got Me or Satisfaction. So I'm going for the sweet groove of Funky Nassau B

While Moanin' maybe a bit obvious, I'm just not into the funk...so I'll take A
Oh boy is it getting rough, when my old world charm isn't quite enough.

I guess Blue Note's greatest hits are that for a reason, and I like that track a lot, but, yeah, it's beyond obvious. I mean, that's the track you'd use if you needed "jazz" for the soundtrack of a romantic comedy.

'Funky Nassau' reveals something new each time I hear it. You could mix that into a funk night, a Latin night, a Caribbean night...hell, I heard it at an Afrobeat night once. It's the track that keeps on giving.

So, rather than vote for the 'Green Onions' of jazz, I'll vote

B

That Blakey track is massive! Now there's an 11-minute piece that earns it!

B, by comparison, is ultimately a novelty track, though a very charming one.

A pretty easily.

I can't believe the sheer snobbery coming out on this thread!

You'd think they'd picked Stairway To Heaven!

A lot closer than I expected it to be. In the end the deciding factor was the vocal on The Beginning of the End track. Should have left it out.

Well, it kinda is the "Stairway" of Jazz.....or at least the "Layla".

But that ain't gonna preclude me from voting for it.

I hadn't heard "Funky Nassau" for decades (had forgotten about, really) - what a fantastic tune. This isn't the version I'm familiar with, tho....

Sorry, B.

A tight one. After much chin-stroking, I'll go with "Moanin'".

Both hugely enjoyable but I can't in good conscience vote against Art Blakey.

I'm going for the Stairway To Heaven of obscure novelty funk.
