I Love The Moon & The Melodies. Budd brings a distinct change of atmos to the (by now) usual Cocs modus.

Bliss

The Numan track was a bit crap too so it's easily

What is so terrible about B? I've always liked it.

Good grief. You could write a book on how terrible it is. Are people just trying to be contrary here..?

Well, there have been quite a few times we have disagreed about a song.

What is so bad about Numan? You really think I'm being contrary? I'm not pissed off, but curious. I find it interesting how sometimes Brits will all like a certain artist, and all dislike another one. Americans do it too.....

Always hated the bathtub-soundalike recording of the drums on A but still it is a classic. Couldn't quite get with Numan in response here.

That Numan schtick had already worn very, very thin hadn't it?

That being said, the first track (with that horrendous reverb to death production) isn't exactly anything to write home about either.

I have to go with A but neither deserve a vote really.

It's not the artist, it's that particular track.

The Cocteaus sound appears to be pretty marmite on BCB. I love it myself, I think they create real flights of beauty. The stately way this builds and reaches its crescendos is totally captivating for me.
I was obviously wrong in thinking B was the forfeit choice, it isn't but it could be. Numan had totally lost his way by this stage. This track is an inept attempt at a mid eighties chart sound, but is absolutely buggered by having no tune at all.

Close to Vini Reilly territory with the guitar, and the video looks like it was a new-age thing, too. I think it's got a bit more meat on the bones, especially towards the second half of the track, there's altogether more song-craft gone into this, and Liz Frazer's vocals are wonderful. Yeah, this is the sort of thing that could get me reconsidering my opinion of them as one-trick ponies, it's a lovely bit of warbling and chimes.

I'm almost encouraged by G's dismissal of this Numan track, it's heightened my expectations. Sadly, I think we're on the same page for this rare occasion. That farty synth-bass is doing the track no favours, but neither is the thin production, the vocals, or the really formulaic sounding chorus. That "Start again ... gain... gain" bit is horrible. What was that about? At least the extraneous synth wurbles are ... crap.

Once again, agree with My Little Fishy One about one but not the other. B is tacky, dated, and pretty much a bad Numan imitation by Numan himself.

A is decent enough, and like C, I'm a fan of Harold Budd, but this sounds to me like the same ol' breathy shtick from them. I find them hopelessly dull, usually, and this is no exception. But it's got enough to win here as at least it's not actively annoying. How's that for faint praise?
