a - what a rubbish voice. And a general horrible noise featuring random sax squeaks backing him. I thought this guy was a guitarist, but more than two minutes in, I haven't heard a single fret being wanked. A dreadful load of shit, one of the worst things I have ever heard in a conventional mode. 1 / 10
b - only had to turn up to win this, really. Which was fortunate, because I generally prefer the Box Tops to Big Star. This is all right, though. 4.5 / 10

It pains me to vote against Big Star but at least it’s one of their weakest tracks. Touched by genius, was young Tommy.

Both are simply horrid.

I think I have to give it to B, but I have absolutely no idea why.

Fat blonde lad in a Leeds shirt, isn't it. Brings back memories, hmm. Never heard this before, it's a strange old fractured rock song, but not without a bit of a hook. It seems to be going all over the place in its attempts to avoid being an overly lumpen rock song, and quite frankly that's an attitude I support. I like the way that every instrument is played in short, sharp bursts, it just gives it a bit of a spring and angularity.

Big Star are cult favourites amongst muso nerds, but I don't know if I've ever heard them before. I'm not impressed with the intro, it's feeling like an American take on glam, but at least they've stopped with the almost-Ozzy yelps. The glam thing is coming through more and more, if Roxy Music had grown up listening to Crazy Horse and some geezer in a ten gallon hat, they might have sounded like this.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Jesus christ. I imagine A is what the SNL band would sound like if they had a singer. Just awful.

i think he was too, although this isn't my fave from teaser. i hafta admit i like d_f's description of it. (i say this as a person who is generally a proud member of the lumpen crowd.) tommy had many things goin on, a regrettably short time to try to get to em all.

the big star track was okay. listenable. rocky. ultimately, not very stand-outy. but i do know i need to explore more of that band. from comments in this thread and elsewhere, i'd bet at their best, they are very kathish.

Yay big star!
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Both of these seem to channel some of the worst sides of Zep. A I suppose.
