No doubt Roddy Frame wanted to prove that underneath Jump's brash, flash West Coast exterior lurked a beautifully crafted song. Instead he proved what a dull song it really is. I'd take Van Halen over it and that's saying something.
Yeah I enjoyed B. The combination of olde world song and modern spacious production worked really well. I should check this band out really, the dreadful name put me off.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

A was lateral. And I feel a bit bad for voting because I don't like the song, but

A is far too impressed with itself. Its appearance here was inevitable.

B is marvelous. A rock band taking a wimpy folk song and making it stark and haunting using, not electric guitars, but folk instruments? Count me in. I think I've become a Bongwater fan. And as I've said before, I like the name.

I did like A the first few times I heard it but I guess I'm over all that now.

Like others I was pleasantly surprised by B but I still struggle with the name. Why?

It's such a ridiculous name! I mean how the fuck did the Aztecs have cameras?

Acoustic cover versions are a blight on modern life but AC predate that tIresome practice by 2 decades or so; it's a good cover, Bongwater are a rum old proposition but this is an interesting take. I like both actually. Tonight I probably dig B more but A is unfortunate to be on the end of such a shoeing.

Blimey, A's a drawn out bit of old rope, isn't it? Jeez, it's dull.

Bongwater might have the worst bandname in living memory, but they knock this one out of the park. Absolutely lovely. I'd buy something like this, if only embarrassment over the name didn't mean that I'd more likely ask for a copy of Top-Heavy Lovelies Monthly to spare my blushes.

a - I stopped buying AC records before he released this, and of course I've never listened to the original by Van Rental or whoever. Roddy made some wonderful records in his teens, but they were all his own rather lovely songs. This is just boring. 3 / 10
b - Ha! I remember Jimmie Rodgers' hit version of this in the 50s (or maybe sixties). Same song, but fuck of a different ambience, while the Weavers original, which I heard only recently, is very different again. And some great, intense, banjoing going on there – I looked it up, it's Peter Stampfel. oooooohhhh The Fugs. ooooooohhhhhh Holy Modal Rounders. Bongwater tend to be written up as a psychedelic band, but I think they're firmly in that line that began with the Beats recording poetry over jazz, went through Fugs and HMR and others and the Patti Smith Group; a very East Coast scene it seems from over here, and I always loved it. 7 / 10

I don’t get what the big deal is about their name. They’ve turned up in the Cup a few times and no one made a fuss...
