Some good moments and some head-scratchers on each, but A has more for me ultimately. The Dionne and Bonnie make up for an odd CSN choice (I much prefer "Shadow Captain" or even the Nash stuff from that same album) and the dull stuff in the middle.

B similarly made some puzzling song choices from artists I approve of (there's tons of better Jah Wobble tracks, for example). Cheers for the Dillard & Clark and a very good Cope track, but it's not quite enough.

I don't really get list A. I can't imagine wanting to listen to the Subway Sect or Future Sounds of London tracks, though I like the Dionne, Bonnie Dobson and Nico Gomez well enough.

B has great Can, The Comet is Coming and The Explainer tracks, so it would probably get my vote anyway.

That makes (I think) THREE Subway Sect songs in this first round alone. That's cool. That's a good choice, A, too. And I'd heard and LOVED the Cheryl Lynn tune before but had never put a name to it. The rest is a real mixed bag, aiming (it looks) for great diversity but consequently not hitting too many bullseyes.

The Can choice in B is puzzling - a weak cut from one of their poorest albums. Most of the rest sounds great to me - the Jah Wobble tune is a fucking MONSTER, that's a great Cope pick too, and Dillard and Clark always make me feel happy. And 'Yes' is 'obvious' but those kinds of picks don't really bother me.

B gets the vote

Thanks go to A for reminding me how much i hate Crosby, Stills and Nash. FSOL did much better than this and Ritual is excellent.

B has some great picks but some dull stuff.

Two really strong lists.
A is a bit all over the place, but mostly works. Lovely Dionne track, quietly powerful Bonnie Dobson, the always magical trance of PNG and the C,S,N sounds like a ravaged, wired Steely Dan..which makes it more interesting than Steely Dan of course.
B is strong too. Love the propulsive The Comet and D & C at their most mellifluous (oh yes, I've been mainlining the OED tonight!), but some loss of marks for the hackneyed calypso of the opener, a so so Can and the overused 'Yes'.

This is a good match, and a tough one.

Both lists hit a lot of what i like, with only one or two tracks that are a bit average. That Bonnie track is awesome, great to see another person who loves it. A is appeallingly funky, and that side is the strongest for me. B has a nice mix of styles, especially the first 4 and the Comet track, but is slightly less interesting in the middle. A hard call, but A.

Man, I used to hate that Cheryl Lynn song. I rather dig it now, but list B has more that appeals to me.

CSN and Dionne are fine by me, but maybe wouldn't hve chosen those tracks.A saves the best till last, a good if maybe geeneric Latin groove, lifted a notch or three by a mad funk guitar wig out. Modern Nature was a snoozefest. I still don't get Can. Every track I've heard has just bored me and this was no exception. Dillard and Clark and Julian Cope fine but A scrapes it.

A was fucking grim. No other way to describe it. Made me contemplate hari-kari but then realised you lot would enjoy that just a little too much.

The Wobble, Mac & But and Summon The Fire were good but the standout here was unquestionably the wonderful Avi Buffalo track! Yowsah, that was good.

B wins by a considerable distance.

I liked list A mostly when it got folky with Mother Nature (one of my favorite new discoveries so far), Bonnie Dobson and the CSN track . Unfortunately the rest of the list really didn't connect with me.

B had more appeal with a nice Jah Wobble track, a terrific Julian Cope and the Avi Buffalo was another new discovery that I really liked. The McAlmont and Butler also gets approval, but it was a pity they went for a Can track I don't like much. Despite that there's enough in B to get the vote.

A close match here, A ultimately has more that I like though the Dionne and CSN song choices weren't the greatest for me. Really liked the Bonnie Dobson. B had a few standouts, Dillard & Clark and I really liked the Avi Buffalo and will have to check them out further.

Couple of staplemarks on both lists but for the Modern Nature (which I discovered via Simon Raymonde) and the great SS-opener

Difficult at first glance...

Both lists have two tracks I actively dislike (Cherryl Lynn, FSOL vs. McAlmont & Butler, The Comet Is Coming), one track that's in my DNA (Dark Star vs. Sunspots), one great re-discovery (Bonnie Dobson vs. Dillard & Clark) and one track that's new to me and thrills me (Modern Nature vs. Avi Buffalo).

So it's down to the 3 remaining songs which make B a clear winner after all.
