Aside from Sparks, A does nothing for me.

B is hot mess of the good mixed with turds as mission pointed out. I could overlook some of that stuff, but not all of it. If they make it through to Round 2 they better bring the good in a major way.

I really like Shonen Knife, but why would ANYONE pick do the bartman...Why? Jeez.

Ah...I do like the Weakerthans, enjoyed Hello Sailor and I've always loved Monaco's What do you want from me....that's a great track.

B.

Obvious (to me at least) who A is - but I'd vote for it anyway, honest. B is a real mixed bag.

B has done well to include "Do the Bartman", and it not nearly be the worst track present.

List A isn't great, but I'll give it my vote for both Eric B & Rakim.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

List A:
Madonna - Material Girl - Not "my" 80s.
Donna Summer - Love's Unkind - meh
Sparks - annoying
Bonnie and The Treasures - A Mann/Weil song is welcome after those first three. :D
Cerrone - Supernature - This isn't doing it for me.
Eric B. & Rakim - Better.
Meat Puppets - Two Rivers - Here's where you're in my wheelhouse.
Chuck Berry - Memphis, Tennessee - :D One of the greatest songs ever, but you'll be insulted for including it.
Chic - My F0rbidden L0ver - :D I'm more of a Nile Rodgers guy than a Giorgio Moroder guy.
William DeVaughn - Be Thankful For What You Got - This is a Damned Fine Thing.

List B:
Wyclef Jean - Bubblegoose (Chef Aid version) -
Kelis - Trick Me - :|
Jenny Morris - You I Know - Too VH1 Adult Contemporary for me.
Josh Pyke - Middle Of The Hill - I need a middle eight from this.
The Weakerthans - Aside - Better than the rest so far. I like power pop, but it's still not wowing me. Needs more of a tune.
Morrissey - Irish Blood, English Heart - I'd never heard any of his solo stuff. I didn't know he could have that husky sound in his voice. :)
Hello Sailor - Gutter Black - It's okay.
Monaco - What Do You Want From Me? - meh
Shonen Knife - Do The Bartman - I generally like Shonen Knife. Except for this.
All Our Exes Live In Texas - Our Love Won't Die - :)

A

Mainly because of William DeVaughn.

A almost lost me right off the top with the Madonna track, but then got me back between Eric B. and Rakim and the Meat Pups (and to a lesser extent, Chic).

Not sure of the significance of the two :o cartoon tracks on B, but as nothing else there interests me much, it really doesn't matter.

Oh, and the Donna Summer track is great! Donna does Spector.

Fair play to these two for just picking songs they enjoy and not caring what people think. At least I hope that's what they've done.

I like the to-hell-with-good-taste vibe of B, but I can't quite justify voting for a list featuring Shonen Knife covering 'Do the Bartman'.

A is a very strong list which will go far, I think. I feel sorry for B for taking such a battering, though.

Not big on A (Disco is DEAD already!) but I'll vote for B&tTs, Eric B & Rakim, and William DeVaughn.

Sorry, Heif. :)

Match 14, A=28, B=6
A is the clear winner. A if you haven't already done so, please send me your next five tracks for Round 2.

B was Ian Maiden.
