Re: BCB CUP 2017 - Round 1 Match 2
A is all over the place, but I think the songs are connected by their sonic wit and verve, and that's enough for me.
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

Re: BCB CUP 2017 - Round 1 Match 2
Nothing that I hadn't heard before in B is winning me over. A has some missteps, but that's a danger when you're adventurous.

AT least A has avoided Willin' and gone for a decent Feat pick. The first two tracks of B made me think Googa was back. As it is B has picked "good" EWF and Dylan picks when there's a wealth of "great" to choose from, Both lists a bt all over the place bit Jack McDuff seals the deeal for A

I liked both lists so this was a difficult choice. What swung it for B was Christine & The Queens which I found captivating.

Two lists where the bad stuff is badder than the good stuff is good. More or less a coin toss but:-

I like both these. Individual, yet with strong songs running through them. I'm not much of a NIN fan, B, but the rest is enjoyable. A is full of big fruity flavours though, interested to see what they might pluck out next if they make it through.

Re: BCB CUP 2017 - Round 1 Match 2
List A:
The Pink Floyd – Candy And A Currant Bun - Not a very strong psychedelic track, if you ask me.
The Champs – Tequila - Memories of listening to the oldies station with my ex in the eighties. And Pee Wee.
Spoon – You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb - That’s what I’m talking’ ‘bout! Spoon is channeling a bit of Motown here.
Little Feat – Hamburger Midnight - Makes me want to say, “Go, cat!"
Marsha Gee – Peanut Duck - I’m laughing and grooving!
Stereolab – John Cage Bubblegum - Oh yeah!
X – Sugarlight - I miss X.
Led Zeppelin – Tangerine - I’ve been digging the softer Zep tracks a lot these days.
Massive Attack – Black Milk - I like a spot of trip hop.
“Brother” Jack McDuff – Butter (For Yo Popcorn) - I want fatback and collards for breakfast now.
List B:
Paul Mauriat - Love Is Blue - Cheesy, but evokes my childhood.
Earth Wind And Fire - Kalimba Story/Sing A Message To You - I have to admit I’ve never been as wowed by EW&F as many.
Steve Mason - Another Day - He sounds a bit like Robert Wyatt. “Words in My Head” played after this, and is a better track from this album.
The Human League - Dreams Of Leaving - *Yawn* That was a very long 4:43
Public Enemy - Harder Than You Think - I like the guitar strumming as the backdrop, but still not my cuppa.
The The - Heartland - Nice piano bit. Maybe I could grow to like it.
Bob Dylan - Jokerman - A well-remembered song, but he was verging on self-parody, wasn’t he?
Grace Jones - Me, I Disconnect From You - Never got her appeal.
Nine Inch Nails - We're In This Together - NIN is one of my favorite ways to go loud.
Christine And The Queens - Tilted - I’m a bit annoyed by the music, but I like the dancing.
B needs way more Peanut Duck, so A

Re: BCB CUP 2017 - Round 1 Match 2
Should mention, the link on B's list for the Human League actually sends to a different track than the intended one. "Dreams of Living" is very good, whereas "Let's All Make a Bomb" isn't. Both lists I'd rank about the same, there's some tracks I like, some I don't. A I feel offered me more new things that I enjoyed, including a much better Little Feat track than the first match, and “Brother” Jack McDuff. It's my choice!

B but as has been noted above, tracks one and two could come back to bite.
