I think we're going to find out in this tie where the classics stand in this Premiership. For A is a stone cold beauty which deals out some ass-whuppin' to anyone daring to oppose it.

And as pleasant as Gilgamesh sounds, with some sturdy guitar word and nice tinkling ivories in the background, it is getting a severe beating here.....

The Gilgamesh was a new one for me and, it turns out, yet another beautiful example of the Canterbury sound. I love the playing and the flow of the song, so straight away, this competition is leading me towards pastures new.

But, God, no, I can't vote against the mighty Master Of The Universe, which has been a signature song of mine since 1971: even the commercial attempts of Ford cannot diminish its raw power. It has to be:

i think it depends on the classic at hand and what it's up against.

the gilgamesh is really groovy, methinks. i luvvvv the gweetar sound, i dewwww. however, it's more of a mood thing for me.

meanwhile, you don't pick the hawkwind track. it picks you. mwhahaHA.

what. of course i am sane.

The Gilgamesh track is nice, with a gentle, almost jazzy-rock feel to it which i enjoyed ok, but there's no going around the fact that 'Master...' is the better track for me here.

Gilgamesh are new to me and I really enjoyed that. It's noisy and chilled at the same time and goes very nicely with my cup of strawberry tea. A quick Google tells me that the guitarist is Phil Lee. I've never heard of him but I'll be checking him out.

The Hawkwind track is a beast but we all know that it's a beast. I've got to reward B for introducing me to something new and wonderful.

The Gilgamesh track only the end section of a 3 part piece so a bit of a cheat, Masters Of The Universe is the definitive Hawkwind track & a favourite but not an imaginative choice so

The Hawkwind is nearly great but it seems restrained, the vocals a little dull. I wish it lashed out.
The Gilgamesh is pleasant but meandering and I don't like the guitar sound.

Undoubtedly, Master of the Universe is a classic. I think we need to go beyond 'the classics' and look for good and interesting music that we're not familiar with.

I guess I'm alone here (and admittedly not super-familiar with Hawkwind), but this song doesn't read Prog to me. It's more straight-ahead Rock in my book. The 2nd song, I agree is fresh and new to me and I likes it.

I wasn't initially impressed with the Gilgamesh track on first listen and thought it was going to be an easy vote for A but I held off voting and after 4 or 5 listens its mellowness has won me over. The Hawkwind track is great but I'm in a mellow mood today.

B is right up my street.

A is a plodding spacey rock-out that has never done much for me.

So B it is.

I've persevered with Gilgamesh but it's doing nothing for me - music for a wet Thursday afternoon in Tipton. Not the biggest fan of Hawkwind either but it get's the nod here.

The Gilgamesh is excellent, and as stated, only part of a suite. The Hawkwind pick is a little obvious.

As mentioned by others here, the Hawkwind track is wonderful, but you may as well be picking "21st Century Schizoid Man" as a follow-up as well. It's a little too safe a choice. The Gilgamesh track is a nice Canterbury piece, perhaps not the better track among the two but the more inspired choice overall.
