Whew, this one was close. I counted it three times, and, noting that K's vote was too late, the final score is:

A - 29; B - 33

I think it's only proper that such a strong tie should end up this close. Bad luck to A, who was The Right Graduate Profile; well done, B, you're in the final.

Hard luck Matthew. You're getting closer!

Ah!
Shit luck, man, but well played, indeed. You knocked out my list pretty convincingly so I picked your list to go all the way. Not this year, I guess.
Still, great run.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Hard luck Matt, that really was a top selection you put forward.

I'm pretty sure yours was my favorite list, Profile. Alas. I probably would've voted for it in the final as well.

Bugger! Oh well, at least I can say I went out to a very good batch of songs indeed- I would've voted for it in other rounds (and indeed did). Thanks to all those who voted for the list all the way through, although I'm keeping watch on those who turned in this round ;)

I also enjoyed Buddha's song-by-song analysis, even if he didn't like all the picks! To answer a couple of his queries- yes, my list was particularly reggae/70s soul heavy, but it sort of happened by design. In reality, I don't listen to either genres as much as the list indicates, but I have been on that kick over the last few weeks, so those songs were topper-most in my mind. A more "accurate" list of my taste may have included a bit more krautrock, jazz and post-punk. But I think the list would work as a compilation, and that's kinda what I was aiming for. In many ways, the stylistic crash-and-bash of the Son of the Bazerk track, which pastiches everything from doo-wop to 70s funk to thrash metal, all with the ferocious Bomb Squad production driving it through, summed up the feel I was trying to go for.

Anyway, good luck to the guy who defeated me in the final (I can guess who it might be), and for those who cared, these would've been my next five.

Super Furry Animals- Ice Hockey Hair
Traffic- Don't Be Sad
The Gordons- Machine Song
Faust- It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl
Miles Davis- Shhh/Peaceful

Which would have taken away a bit from the soul/reggae vibe, and either way, I probably wouldn't've stood a chance, but there you go!

Matt, I was just happy to see the words "Fetus Productions" on BCB. :D :D :D

Well, that's that then. Sorry mate. It was indeed a top list.
It would have been great for you to win this thing just to shut the UK/US-contingent up and show that it's the Antipodeans with the better taste....not to be.

I think the Antipodeans all need to join together and create one mega-list, in the interests of trans-tasman unity against our former colonial oppressors

Two great lists & I didn't try to make a posthumous pick.

Is it that I'm changing or are the lists more crafted to win these days? The lists were not dissimilar.

Has the Cup ever been won without a Left Banke (bless 'em) track?

2013 will be Grad's year.

Here's hoping 2013 will be that. :)

As for the lists "not being dissimilar" (I agree), I think it's more that once you get to the later stages of any popularity-based contest, the choices become a bit more "universal" if that makes sense. You're not going to get a list of utterly obscure picks winning the final cos not many people would vote for it. But by the same token, people can get bored of the same songs appearing over and over again over so the list which won in 2005 is stylistcally a bit different to the one which will win this year. But generally people pick and vote songs which they like and flow well.
