A leaves me cold. The flow of B, and the random links, makes me question their mental state, but I like that. The new 5 do little for me, but anyone who puts Slayer and Van Halen in the Cup, gets a '1 Bangles Track Free' pass.

Both are mixed but at this stage tend to have more good than bad. B seems a bit more interesting and diverse.

A is one of my favourite lists, mingling classic post-punk pop with genuine 70s oddities. B can't quite compete.

A put in a late rally, but B was always ahead here.

A - 25; B - 29

Shame, as I liked A's list a lot; I even double-counted to check this close result. Anyway, A was echolalia; congratulations to B, who should now forward five funky new tunes to my inbox.

So. That’s that then. I would just like to say that my list was a growing river of song, nourished by tributaries of all different colours, temperatures and complexions, gathering breadth and momentum with every round as it thundered and surged towards a glittering estuary of melomaniac bliss. It’s been cut down in its prime like a pack of blindsided greyhounds and it’s a crying shame.

Thanks to those who voted for my list. Brian, it’s a pity we had to meet like that in the last round as you had a great selection, I thought. And as for the poor, benighted wretches who failed to appreciate my list and its artfully unfolding genius – you richly deserve your bad taste.

It’s been fun. There have been some illustrious losers this round – Goat Boy, Penk, and our reigning champion – so I’m in good company. Congratulations to my adversary: it was an interesting tie over the two days and I bet you were a bit nervous towards the end! Good luck in the next round. (With your list, you’ll need it.)

Thanks Martha. I must be a cup veteran or something as I've come to look forward to your messages of commiseration and being knocked out doesn't feel right without you.

Far away in time...
