It's a great game and I am pretty excited myself. 48 hours is a long time to wait, though.

It's been a poor list so far. Too much fucking prog for starters!
Prog, where? I must have missed it.

Of course. I'm a BCB cup obsessive.
You really are, aren't you? I don't think I've ever known you as enthusiastic and as active on the boards. Insane!
He turns into BCB's Motty when the cups on. I bet he has a little black book with page after page of stats and analysis.

Googa - The voting often occurs in group patterns and matches are usually decided on the second day when a huge group of people often vote overwhelmingly for one list.

This was a common accusation last year - 'haven't heard of half of A's choices' - that kind of thing.
It IS a bit daft to enter the competition and choose mainly obscurities, of course.

So they're obscure because you've never heard them - you need to try harder.

I like my own chances a lot better having seen this first batch of lists, that's for sure.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Actually, although each individual tie takes 48 hours to complete, there will be a new set of ties up tomorrow evening. So not so long to wait.

My daughter's called Vera and gets subjected to all kinds of Aloe Vera, how are you? shwitticisms.
Anyway... I heard that Aloe Blacc song on the radio the other night, but they didn't say who it was. Now I've found out - it's insanely catchy, it has to be said.

This round seems to be mainly composed of the willfully obscure with either a black man on keyboards or a white guy with a loud famous guitar tossed in to balance.
with a total of 9 lists so far, well, this first round will take a while. i vote that we have four matches a day... let's get it on!

I'm finding it very difficult to vote. I find myself liking e.g. A more than B and B more than C, but C more than A, or something. It's like a game of football with three teams on the pitch.

Do you follow the voting on matches you're not involved in?
'Fraid not.
In your match, do you prefer the voters to just state their choice or give reasons? Why?
I like praise for my list, but other than that people can keep their damn silly opinions to themselves.
Do you hang back to see how the voting's going or do you leap right in as soon as you open the thread? Do you play it any differently in your own match?
Make my mind up straight away.
Do you think you can spot the identities of any of the lists up yet?
Only one. I think I've spotted the list of a certain Welsh-born, New York-educated poet in our midst.

Rarely. If there is a close match or I've managed to identify a poster from their list I'll usually check that match a few times.

Normally I'd like to hear reasons where my list is concerned but over last years Cup some of the reasons provided made me think less of some folk and the reasons were even more arsey than usual, so I care a little less about reasons this year.

I follow the threads to see what, if any, the comments are. I get a feel for the overall voting but I don't keep a tally.

I like comments generally. It adds to the vote. I don't take negative votes seriously though... unless they say something like "that pick clearly shows he is not a real fan".

I vote the first time I open the match - unless it's really close in my mind and I might go and play a few of the tunes. I try and do the same thing in my match.

Well of course you can get irate when someone says 'they're just picking this to be cool' or 'what a load of crap', even so I'd still rather read comments as I would in all the matches. I always feel not enough make the effort with that.
.
Further to the above, I'd add it can be frustrating to see a whole load of votes go against you with no explanatory comment. I've definitely noticed that people who tend to comment often vote for my lists whereas the ones that don't comment tend not to. Make of that what you will.

Nope, i cast my vote then see if it reflects who others who voted before me went for. That said, i helped out counting the votes on a few ties last year.
- In your match, do you prefer the voters to just state their choice or give reasons? Why?
I liked seeing reasons last year, it was nice to see people explain why my list was shite, not just call it shite and move on.

I vote as soon as i've seen the thread. I'm not influenced by how others vote, so why would i wait? I treat my own match no differently, other than checking it more frequently. Oh, and not passing much in the way of comment about it.

Nah.

This is a good point. I remember someone (was it Coan?) last year voting against Mike Boom specifically because they were sure it was his list. That was a bit offside, IMO.Rocky Bronzino wrote:In your match, do you prefer the voters to just state their choice or give reasons? Why?

If I like the lists involved, yes.

I'm not fussed but when folk say shit like 'it's trying to be varied just for the sake of it' I think, FUCK OFF.

I look at the lists and check out youtube clips if possible then usually vote a little while later but I avoid looking a how the voting has gone.

Maybe a couple. The Baron and possibly a one more.
