And despite the overwhelming initial support for B that we're seeing here so far, I really think A is going to win -- not just this round, but the cup. It would absolutely destroy my list if I came up against it, so thank fuck I have not. If I knew whose list it was I'd bet on it.

if A wins it would be a BCB disgrace!

:D
Well I appear to be in a minority here...This is why I don't gamble -- that list looks like a sure fire slam dunk to me.

The last 5 are way to predictable and will be its downfall. Wait and see! I think I've spotted the winner but I'm keeping schtum.

The latest five additions from A are shamelessly populist and deserve to be shown up as a blatant piece of politicking!

I hate everything.

A.
If you've got nothing to do, don't do it here.

But..but... they're GOOD! Couldn't it just be possible that List A likes them? That list A has great taste? I really don't understand NOT liking the list...is the complaint that the list is too damn good?

good = predictable = death here.

I don't think you're taking into consideration that the cup is a few years old now and many of those songs are slightly passe I'm afraid. My Generation? What Goes On? Great, great songs, of course, but not good enough at this stage. Unpredictability is what I'm looking for! A wonderful surprise not 'oh, that one AGAIN'.

Predictable is NOT death round here, just don't be TOO predictable that's all and that's the trap A falls into.

There isn't a single person on this board who couldn't have sat down and written out A had they wanted to.
B isn't entirely my thing, but it walks this one.

Awful thing when that happens. I had a similar experience at a Tom Jones concert.

B I like a lot - but A was OK too.

So, B.
Of course, I was mostly stoned at the time.

Oh, of course. May well be the case. I like most of them too. But after four or five years of the cup it just looks very samey - as GB says, they've all come up time and time again before.
Remember, if you enter the cup you have to have a thick skin: everyone's list is going to get trashed at some point, and better for it to be by people saying "it's good, but...".

I'm not wholly convinced but B wins out here.

I liked B a lot but its latest 5 are attrocious (saving the estimable Wolf). However its still too strong for a good but patchy A. B it is.

I think the other thing to remember is my or Penk's or GB's criteria is by no means everyone's. Those who shout the loudest do not necessarilly hold the sway over the way the vote goes. Generally speaking lists of well known classics will do better, but as GB said earlier it is about getting the balance right.
