I'm really glad that hasn't spilled over into Cup competition.

The drop off in voting has happened every year we've done this so I wouldn't read anything too special into it happening this year.

Good point. As long as Mike Boom wins in the end, there's nothing to be worried about.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Is 'dinner party' the BCB Cup Stalinist's equivalent to 'serialist' or 'formalist?'

:?

It means the sort of music that someone, with pretty good taste, would play you as they served up the Osso Bucco and rocket salad.

Decent music for background listening but not what you'd concentrate on.

I'm not sure whether that is a yes or no to your question, but I hope it answered it.

Bien sur!

Plus, I just wanted to make a hardcore muso/politics joke. Given, it wasn't very funny. :(

I laughed.

A bit.

I'll vote for practically anything with a Motorhead or AC/DC number on it out of simple desperation.

AC/DC has been around for 35 years, and have been extremely well known and popular around the world for about 30 of them. Everyone under the age of 60 has heard of them, is at least somewhat familiar with them, and (except for extremely puritanical individuals) would likely not be shocked in the least by them, let alone would spit soup across a table. It's riff-based rock with some overdrive/distortion in 4/4 time, with lyrics comprised almost solely of double entendres that are, for the most part, more accurately characterized as single entendres. AC/DC are totally fine, but they are not in the least bit shocking, unless one finds teenage jokes about sex ("Big Balls," really?) to be scandalous. At this point, hell, Joanna Newsom and her screwy voice (which I love) would be more "shocking," which is saying something.

Motorhead, on the other hand.... yeah, that would probably shock most bosses. Maybe not quite as much as some really out there free jazz or really explicit hip-hop, but definitely worthy of spitting soup.

True enough. Probably less than 60 votes for last year's QF's. We're still getting 70-80 votes for Round 3 this year.

I'll stay with it till the end, but the heart isn't really in it anymore, as my favourite lists invariably get thrown out...

And so, a month after the kick-off, we reach the last sixteen.

A huge thank you to everyone who has mucked in with vote counting, and thanks also to everyone who continues to vote even though they have been ignominiously jettisoned from the competition.

Round Four and Quarter Finals this week. Semis and the Grand Final next week.

Told you that Brian would be good... Mike Boom is scary....if drawn against him and I win, but go on to lose the cup, I would consider it a victory ...

I came in hoping to get out of the first round - the rest has been gravy. I will now take my list, and my i-pod, for a ten mile run.

Boom has spoken.

Anyone else picture Mike there with flow charts, and the lists written out song by song on index cards, with different colored post-its tracking the popularity of the songs and artists? I wonder if he starts planning for this in May...

I'd be really disappointed if this wasn't a mock up of his strategy against Ray K's list....

He's The Pope's alias.
