Unfair on B really, it has many decent picks but they're all too familiar to move me. Unfinished Sympathy has always been a blindspot too.

A, well it has ace Band, DeMent, Crusaders, Hollies and Toots as well as wrong picks by Talking Heads and Rundgren. The VU pick has long been a fave.

Without looking at the comments so far I can imagine the type of flack that list B is getting but it is packed to the gills with great tunes.

I'm still voting for A because of the Crusaders (in my list one year) and Toots & The Maytals.

Interesting: thanks to the wider participation, we get a match without any flashy "look how cool I am" tracks on either side, only long-time popular favourites.

The problem is, both include several songs which I deeply wish to never hear again for sheer over-familiarity.

Somehow I think I'd cringe less with

Both packed with groovy grooves, of course, but A sticks its neck out a whole lot more.

B is a bit like a well painted landscape. A bit old fashioned and traditional but occasionally that doesn't matter so much. It will have to do something special to convince me next time though.

B is perfectly good -indeed much better than that! - but rather undernourishing in its familiarity. Haven't read the rest of the thread yet but there is actually very little to argue with in terms of the choices. A is more eclectic and has some real personal faves of mine - it would win many contests here.

Why has B gone to the bother of adding links to tracks that everyone must know. I can only assume that someone has run a computer programme to analyse past BCB Cup matches and come up with a winning list. It ends up with some good tracks, but ultimately a list that says nothing about the compiler.

Stupid Pixies and wrong Talking Heads songs notwithstanding. B is too over the top and A has a great grab bag of jams.

The problem with B is its over-familiarity. I suspect most of us could play those songs in our head without listening to them yet again. I'll go with A for the Band and Toots.
