A despite the presence of the Pixies AGAIN. Not a great Todd pick either. If you'd picked Cliche I would have been more impressed.

B is very difficult -it begs the question 'do conservative lists matter if the song is good?' For me it does matter for where would we be if we relied upon the same shallow canon for our nourishment. I think any list I endorse should at least be slightly alive to the idea of mavericks, individualism, flashes of one off brilliance and daring experiments. And yet the songs picked are good.
A is quite traditional itself really, but does at least show some interest in the pop sych of The Hollies or the offbeat singer-songwriter journey of Todd Rundgren. Incidentally I found the Rundgren track a little disappointing, it was pleasant enough but sounded like a cross between Fleetwood Mac and Steely Dan when I was expecting something a little more out there.

I'm genuinely conflicted here as looking at B again the songs there are very good. I have to vote for it I think, but I hope to see a bit more adventure in the second round.

I love both these lists. They may have played it pretty safe but at least that allows me to judge them where as with some of the more obscure lists I know very few (or in once case none) of the selections.

But A just about gets this.

A is decidedly patchy, but gets my vote.

As for B, I can only assume that it is a joke designed to make fun of all the "canonist" and "conservative" baggage that goes with the BCB Cup.

I never abstain, but I came close on this match. I trust B's canonism will be mitigated with some more adventurous choices if it makes it through to the next round...

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
