Both, dare I say it, Curate's eggs. I've never quite understood the gushing over Pink Frost though Hurry On Sundown is an inspired shout by B and there's something very ace indeed about Primitive Painters and Immigrant Song. A is a mix I'd more happily listen to on my iPod, though, even if I'd probably be slightly miffed if Pavement or Elliott Smith popped up.

B is a joy from start to finish though I can see it's indulgence in the odd decent tune would ostracise some of us. Inspired Hawkwind pick and, excuse my ignorance, but what's so bad about "Fade Into You"? It's just a nice little moody pop song (with a good tune).

A, largely based on earlier choices. The new picks don't excite me much, but they're both OK.

Both lists have songs that I like; neither excites me at all really. So many good lists are out, and these just don't make the grade ultimately.

A - just casts its net a bit wider.

The previous three voters all went for A so I have to vote B to try and maintain the A,A,A,B,B,B voting pattern.

And I like B a lot.

Another two good lists, still two ties to go and it's already better than last night.

My fist thoughts on seeing these lists was that it was an inspired Hawkwind pick. I then read that loads odf people have already said that. Oh, well, originality is overrated anyway.

A kinda annoys me, in that whenever I come across an artist that excites me, with the exception of 'Pilgrimage' for REM, they choose the most obvious track. I mean, there's nothing in the world I love more than 'Congoman' ... but how many times are we going to see the first two tracks from Heart of the Congos get picked? Get some 'Sodom and Gomorrow' on the scene, for fuck's sake.

Having said that, I love the direction it's taking with the mammoth tracks from Tenor Saw and Biggie. Populist, brash and absolutely delicious. I'm going to encourage it - and I expect to see something even more tokenistic and brilliant next round.

This one pits two of my favorite lists in the competition. Unfortunately, there can be only one victor and it comes down to the new five.

A picks a great Elliott Smith and an unimpeachable Bowie track (one that was on my list last year!) but B tops it with Skip Spence, XTC and The Chills.

...because it's one of the most haunting singles of the period, is why. And it feels like home (literally) to me. Despite that, I'm going for A , because along with its early kinghits, it seems to pull a few doozies out to finish things off this round- the Bowie pick is a great one, and the Biggie and Tenor Saw songs are huge. Big shout to Mayfield, Temptations, New Order, Pop Group, Pere Ubu and Congos picks too.
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

By far the weakest tie of the 3rd round so far - A, but whoever wins this tie is surely out next round?
