ROUND 3 STARTS TONIGHT! (lists needed urgently)

Postby Butch Manly » 11 Feb 2009, 22:48

I'll be starting Round Three on Sunday 22 Feb - eight ties over two days.

Voting should finish on the second four on Wednesday night allowing us to proceed directly to Round Four (the quarter finals) that evening to get those out of the way by the weekend, as long as I have those Next Fives in pronto, of course.

That will leave the Semis and final to be played out the following week, assuming there are no hitches.

Cheers to everyone for your co-operation and continued support.

(Obviously, all of this might get fucked up by (a) tie breakers or (b) late lists)

You see, this sort of thing makes it all worth while.

I am a bit confused as to how we are meant to vote in the quarter finals given that all eight lists will look like this:

The Velvet Underground - What Goes On
Can - Mushroom
Nick Cave - There She Goes My Beautiful World
Gladys Knight and the Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia
The Kinks - Days
Buffalo Springfield - Expecting to Fly
Pere Ubu - Non-Alignment Pact
Pavement - Here
Wilson Pickett - In the Midnight Hour
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle

How do we choose between eight identical lists?

Couldn't possibly vote for it. 9 of the choices are not by Nick Cave and there's one song I've never actually heard. This frightens me. Where will it all end?

At least we'd be guaranteed eight good lists in the quarters. Rather than some of the shite some of the very early losers picked.

There's an issue that's been on my mind a while, chaps. Here's the deal:

On Sunday morning Natka and I fly out to Prague for four days. My original view was that I'd be able to get to an internet cafe and perform my usual Cup duties in the early evenings fairly easily but the more I've thought about it, the more I've realised that I can't guarantee that happening. I mean, I'll be on holiday, for fuck's sake, and I'm supposed to be relaxing and enjoying myself without a care in the world.

I'm sure I can get to a computer at some point in each day but it may well not be as regularly timed as usual. It could well more likely be mornings rather than evenings. If everyone's ok with that, that's fine and dandy.

If not, there are two alternatives:

- I hand over the reins to someone else for that period (or the rest of the Cu's duration).

- The Cup is postponed for a week.

Sorry about this - I really should have given it more thought before I agreed to run the Cup again.

Your thoughts, please......

Cancel it. It's lost all credibility since I've gone out.
Seriously I think either hand over to someone else (I'll be happy to volunteer) or postpone it for a week.
Don't bother trying to find internet cafes..enjoy your holiday!

I say postpone it for a week, Andy. It's not a long time, really, but long enough to give everyone a bit of a breather - yourself especially, of course. We'll all be back with increased enthusiasm after a break anyway, I think, and no-one in their right mind is going to care that there's no Cup 'action' for just a few days.

Postpone it for a week; I'm having trouble choosing between Modern Eon and Dif Juz anyway.....
It was raining when we drove up the two-lane highway through the long tunnel of trees that led into the black district on the south end of St. Martinville.

Another vote for postponing it for a week. I haven't drawn up my next five, and probably won't get the chance to until I come back from the jolly on Sunday.

You could, of course, pay one of the locals at the internet cafe to do it for you.

Have a great break you two.
Have a Cohiba and Singapore Sling in Harleys for me. Tell them Frank sent you. The nice Hells Angels will look after you.
