A goes for an interesting, eclectic and frequently exciting mix of songs. The Slick Rick and Congos choices are terrific, but could prove foolhardy in the rock-centric world of the BCB Cup.
B exemplifies that rock-centric nature, but fails because whoever is behind it has only heard twelve songs and doesn't even know who some of them are by.

An easy win for A.

I am going to eat an apple and reflect on the whole sorry state of this contest. I shall return.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

B plays it too safe, despite a few good choices (and then there's Morrissey...)

A it is, then.

I had to check out a few songs in A first, as I was unsure of quite a bit of it. Bloody hell, that Congos track is good, isn't it? I only know 'Fisherman' (the obvious classic), but this is better. Also, I liked the Sharon Tandy song, and the Fire Engines is an old favourite. B is solid but unspectacular. I can't argue with 'SVM', but there are better Bowie, Morrissey and Eels choices available.

I like the cut of A's jib. A it is.

I think A is the more interesting list, but B has five songs that I truly love (Alice Cooper, Can, Lee and Nancy, Neil, Bowie)... so

Bungo the Mungo

B's choices are just that little bit safer (by BCB's standards, anyway) - most should be well-known, some well-loved. It's got 'Mother Sky' and 'Some Velvet Morning' - songs that move me more than almost anything in the world. Great Zep, NY, and Eels choices.

A has some great songs, too - it's a touch more interesting (i.e. I'd like to investigate one or two further). There's the gorgeous Gene Clark song - a fucking heartbreaker, that - and the splendid Caetano Veloso. I can't say I'm a fan of that Cale track, tho', and I often see it mentioned as one of his classics. Hm.

It's tough - we're off to a great start with some imaginative and interesting selections. I have to say I'm more excited about this year's Cup than anything I've taken part in here for a long time, and this kind of thing bodes very well.

I'm going for B, 'cos it's just a little more in tune with my tastes. But it's close.

It's a great list and I'd like to see it go farther with more songs added on.

The Modernist

This is a bit of a no brainer for me as my tastes have got very similar to A's over the last couple of years. This selection is totally down my street mixing as it does the outer reaches of funk, weird Brazilian vibes, heartwrenching soul, some off the wall early hip-hop. It's all too much fun really and the kind of list I'd happily endorse all the way to the final. Is it too obscure? I hope not, and I'd like to think, beyond a few of our resident cumudgeons, that BCB is open enough to embrace such a selection.
B is solid enough, but I was too excited by A to pay that much attention I'm afraid.
