B by some distance: the smokey Upsetters song, some great early 70's funk in The Commodores and the meanest Brit rn'b record in Midnight To Six. A's five is a little dull really, though "Quiet Life" is an interesting pick.

H'mm, I think that B has upped his game here, widening the scope of selections a bit. Also, 'Northern Lites' was a highlight of one of the best gigs I've ever been to. A is decent, but I just like B a bit more.

B, just.
So you're living in Eden where, apples are good
But every narrow miracle, takes place on Earth
Yeah, some militia have arrived and, the percussion has come
And they're pounding out messages loud on the drum

Notwithstanding the Return of Django, B is fading to my ears. A's inclusion if the pretty good, but over-familiar Whole Of The Moon might be it's Achilles Heel, but I'll go A anyway. Swap the Waterboys and The Upsetters in these two lists and you'd see a massacre, I reckon.

'Return of Django' - The Upsetters

B was already great, but has decided to move out of its locked in groove with the next 5. Love the smoky, zippy Upsetters song, "Northern Lites" is irrestible, and the Boards of Canada track adds a touch of atmosphere as well. It already had Count 5, Magazine, Moby Grape, Left Banke, Stooges, the Kinks, Teardrop Explodes and a buncha other great stuff anyway!
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

B has definitely benefitted from broadening its range. Compared to A though it still looks a bit one paced and canonical.

Both these lists are far more my thing than Match 2; there's plenty to admire in both and I feel bad voting against one. Ultimately, though, its got be B - some great light and shade emerging there.

Seriously people, what the fuck is A still doing in the competition at this stage? Ah well - it's got a struggle on its hands to get past B, which has moved away from the big hitters without losing its solid feel.
