Before the additional 5 both were strong lists with nothing to choose between them. B though appears to have run out of steam and, whilst A isn't much better, a great Supergrass choice is enough to just push it ahead.

A has some real turds but some big hitters too ( Sun Hits The Sky, I Just Wasn't Made...Editions Of You) and that's enough against a very weak list from B.

Using a scoring technique on this one for a change and despite being a tad trad, the classics on A are genuine belters and make the difference - Editions of You, I Just Wasn't Made... and The Red Telephone are all among my favourite songs of all time. B was not without its charms, though - the Prefabs track is magnificent.

A doesn't really excite me overall, despite some great picks. B has its weaknesses but has some real gems and goes against the grain in a way that somehow cheers my heart. i feel i know where B is coming from.

A is so brimming with goodness and full of itself. It needs a good kicking from something wild and exciting. Unfortunately thats not B.

A has more kinghitters, but seems a bit allover the place- I can't really get a handle on it, I'm afraid. Which isn't to say there isn't some great stuff on it, but B just seems that little bit more fun- any list that finds room for the Slickers, Steel Pulse, the Damned and Half Man Half Biscuit has to have something going for it.

It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

"U2 routinely spent a year in the studio...I have a theory: if you put four monkeys in the studio for a year with Lanois and Eno and Lillywhite, they would make a pretty good record, too."

B, just. Lowish scores reflect that both lists have a lot of songs I like and lots I really don't rather than consistency - maybe the same for everyone. Mr William Hill, he can rest tonight!

going with B - Deaf School - a band that Carlsson has probably never heard.
