B

I like A's mix of artists better, but I like B's songs better.

A has that sense of geniune love of song and inventiveness that everyone in this shambolic event hates, so A, one of the better lists this year.

If you'd going to compile a list of Mojo-approved 'canonical' choices, B is the way to do it - just about every song on there is a gem, and the list is getting stronger. That said, A has a much wider frame of reference, and, though its choices are wildly variable, it's ultimately more of what I want to see in a list. It could be accused of 'box-ticking', but choosing both Kenny Rogers and Nightwish is so utterly perverse that its unclear whose boxes it's trying to tick. Also, there are some fantastic, on-the-button choices among all the madness.

A, for a greater sense of adventure and fun.

A 61 plays B 53

Both let themselves down a bit with their latest 5, especially A in fact only the rEzillos raising a smile.

But A has been strong up to know and look set to march on to the next round.
