A's new songs don't interest me much, apart from Nirvana, while B has just added JT's best song and still has Stardust...

But I think A, on the whole, had the better original list. Part of B's appeal is that it's less familiar but I only know A's songs so well because I've chosen to listen to most of them countless times.

A is excellent. I prefer its first fifteen, and the new five are top notch, with the possible exception of the Arctic Monkeys song, which I've almost certainly heard but can't remember what it's like...

B has some belters as well - e.g. Rip It Up, I Can't Explain, One Nation..., Suspect Device - but, for me, doesn't have the same strength in depth.

Fuck, this is hard. No one deserves to lose this as i think both are stellar.

Of the new 5, top, top marks for Rock your Body, a brave and inspired choice. So many other great songs - husker, the brilliant stardust, OJ, Midlake, Stooges etc etc. The minus points (Fall, Kim) aren't enough to lose it my vote.

So B it is, although i can't believe i'm voting against an almost perfect additional 5 from A, including the delectable Monkeys song - a guaranteed vote loser.

Really sorry A.

I might add some more. At least I was beaten by a list that wasn't chock full of that boring, predictable 60s soul shit, and by quite a fine list, so congratulations to it, I hope you go far. Also thanks to the people who voted and wrote some nice things about my list, I hadn't got past the 3d match of round 1 for the first 2 years, so to get this far is astonishing.

As for the rest of my speech, I'll be recriminating soon
