"U2 routinely spent a year in the studio...I have a theory: if you put four monkeys in the studio for a year with Lanois and Eno and Lillywhite, they would make a pretty good record, too."

Both lists are to be commended for picking interesting and varied artists, however when it comes to songs I really want to hear it is B's list that I'd be far more likely to reach for (specifically the Curtis, Freda Payne, Chi-Lites, Womack and JD choices).
Does need to work a little harder with the extra five next though (although I like the indie noir of Lenny Valentino).

I liked B anyway but with the 5 extra choices it is now even better. The Auteurs and Beastie Boys tracks in particular are excellent.

Tough luck on A because that's a strong list as well.

The new stuff hasn't really improved either of these. Lucky for B it still had plenty of quality to fall back on.

Nothing particularly wrong with A, but B is a rare treat. As soon as I see JD and BW at the top of the list I know I want to vote for it, and then I see 'Beasley Street'! And The Auteurs' song is marvellous.

Far from crazy paving, I'm voting for B.

An unenthusiastic vote for B.

Just.

But as if to make me sure, Meg Baird's heartstopping version of Do What You Gotta Do has just come on!

Two of the best leftover in the competition, either would be deserved winners, but the Womack, Mayfield, John Cooper Clarke (great choice, a wonderful song!), Go-Betweens, Chi-Lites and a cool extra five picks make it a win for B. A has great taste too, mind.
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

Same here. That's brilliant.
