Cheap Trick - Surrender I've never been one to give in for anything or to anybody but I'm almost begging them to stop this aural massacre..
Guided By Voices - My Valuable Hunting Knife The most valuable thing you could do with it Bob, is to stick it in your own heart.
The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog Its Iggy
The Who - I Can't Explain Let me then lads. This is turgid and the singing is off key. Plain enough for ya?
PJ Harvey - Rid Of Me You certainly are, you tuneless harpy.
Midlake - Roscoe Like Roscoe Tanner. Criminal.
Sebastien Tellier - Fantino Like it
Orange Juice - Rip It Up I like 1 OJ song. Its not this one. This is funk done by people who have no funk in them
Phoenix - Funky Squaredance This attempted mash-up is appalling in conception and even worse in execution. May I suggest a Soul Grindcore fusion next.
Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove Fabulous

b...

Darling Be Home Soon – The Loving Spoonful Never, you losers. I've shacked up with the much more handsome Tremeloes
Hot Burrito #1 – The Flying Burrito Brothers The last Burrito I had in San Diego was so hot it burnt my arse on the way out. This is so unpleasant I'd choke on it going in as well
Big Eyed Beans From Venus – Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band Did I tell you how much I detest the Cap'n? The whole freakin universe is too small for the 2 of us, let alone a vegetable shop on Venus
Along Comes Mary – The Association And there is something about her. Yep, her hair is full of jizz. Like this track.
Bel Air - Can Bell End
Just My Imagination - The Temptations You've only gone and chosen the wimpiest Temps track ever. The Temps were a mighty band of raging testosterone. This is the antidote. Reverse viagra.
The Champ – Ghostface Killer The hip-hop choice for people who have listened to 1 hip-hop record in the past 5 years. Its good but not great.
I Pity The Fool – Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland Don't take me for no fool, sucker!
St. Elmo’s Fire – Brian Eno Eno goes bratpack, the horror
What’d I Say – Ray Charles Like it.

So it boils down to Ray Charles or Funkadelic and Iggy. Ray had cooler shades but George had more drugs. Iggy is as sane as a goose on mescalin, Ray had a lovely smile but you knew he'd knife you to death in an instant. If he could see you.
I'm compelled by psychosis in my performers but Ray loses out to the sheer transcendence of George. A man who truly belives he can never die.

A

... because it has the fantastic Cheap Trick at their finest and an awesome GBV song by a guy who was written more awesome songs than just about anyone on the planet.

It's that Temps, Ghostface, Ray trio which has prevailed again. B.

A gets 5s for teh Stooges and the Who and 4s for PJ Harvey and Orange Juice

B gets a paltry 4 for ray Charles and that's it.

A 26 Vs B 18

Another pretty lacklustre pairing, A just shades this one I suppose.

Awful thing when that happens. I had a similar experience at a Tom Jones concert.

Orange Juice & Funkadelic swing it for A

Both lists are combinations of songs I love and songs I don't know.

Useless, I know, but I honestly can't decide.

i make it A winning by a single vote with a late rally that must have been heartbreaking for B.

Indeed. It was the better list too. Oh well at least we get Orange Juice through to the next round.

Shame. I did like this one .I know I've already said that..but I feel like its been robbed. Maybe I should start going to the 'bitter recriminations' thread on others behalf.

I've been feeling guilty because I liked both lists and could have voted either way. So I feel like my vote put Balboa out. But then if I had voted the other way I'd have put someone else out and I'd still feel guilty!

Oh well, so ends another attempt at cup glory. One damn vote!! I actually thought A had way more than me (I never counted) and had expected defeat - I never realised it was so close. I think 10 of the last 11 votes were for A. Quite a comeback. I wonder how much my list was affected by the fact it was out there competing twice within the space of one week due to the prelims.

Well, good luck to A. I'm off to the "Bitter Recriminations Bar" for a drink.
Of course, I was mostly stoned at the time.
