B's good but was chosen en masse last year or the year before which either means someone is picking vote winners or, more likely as i doubt anyone cares that much, just picked the same list. Nothing really wrong with that but if everyone had done it it would have been very dull and i get the impression most people chose some less approved tracks this time round to avoid repetition. Besides it has Randy Newman in with all the good stuff

so A, it managed to not just seem like a retread while also having some amazing songs on it. Could take or leave the Verve and i would have picked a different McCall song but the other 8 were impeccable without being too obvious

what the fuck is that supposed to mean? do you object to eclectic tastes on principle? :?

two very evenly matched lists, as shown by my unique marking system separating them by a single point. hats off to B for the glen campbell and stones, erm, stone cold classics but despite the very average indeed kirsty mccoll song and the, these days, rather tedious verve song A wins out.

neither list, even though they - commendably - took chances, inspired me completely, though.

A, because it has some of my favourite songs on it, and B doesn't have as many.

maybe they just have broad tastes and want to reflect that. fair enough, surely.

Well, we know our stuff and we know what's good. No? The songs that come up time and time again are simply some of the best songs recorded over the last fifty years.

Possible?

I know it sounds smug, closed-minded, ignorant, even. But a grain of truth?

i don't think you're the one sounding smug.

A.

I'm not happy with either list, though. Glen Campbell notwithstanding. But what is it about Wichita Lineman that is so unimpeachable? Rhinestone Cowboy might've pushed me into B.
