B. But I don't think it's that far ahead - there are some great choices there.

Oh, it's good to be doing this again. I would never have thought that staying up late to pore over lists of songs and type one letter every few hours would be such fun!

I'm a bit sorry for A here, even though I've already voted against it - it's not a bad list by any means, and deserves better than the one solitary vote it's managed so far.

Great track as it is, 'Outdoor Miner' has appeared too many times in past lists to get you very far in the competition. As it's only a preliminary round though I'll let it pass.

A

I'm going for A

It seems more genuine.

B

Sandy Denny, Bobby Womack, Curtis and Freda Payne sealed it for me. 'A' had a couple of good choices too but it wasn't consistant enough.

Even though B already has about 97% of the vote, I have to vote for it. Sorry A, but B is the stronger set of tunes.

A

Simply because I like all the songs that I know. The concensus seems to be that B is better but I don't know most of it to be honest so I vote with what I know.

B it is.

Not overly fond of either- A a bit too self-consciously eclectic, B a bit on the predictable side- but I agree with others here- when you break it down simply to who's got the best choons, B just takes it pretty handily.

But I'd have taken both A&B of the other thread over both of these.

If contentious, I'm going to grade the entrants ('O' means I don't know it) ...

A...

96 Tears - ? & the Mysterians (0)
New Noise - Refused (+2 - I remember covering this as a 15-year-old. Incendiary)
This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us - Sparks (+1 - good enough)
The Rat - The Walkmen (+2 - great modern rock song)
I'll Keep Holding On - The Marvelettes (+1 - serviceable Motown)
Outdoor Miner - Wire (0)
Muse Blues - Loudon Wainwright III (0)
Superstar -Sonic Youth (0)
If You Want Me To Stay - Sly & The Family Stone (+2 - not my favourite Sly but it sure is funky)
Starsky & Hutch Theme - James Taylor Quartet (0)

B...

Transmission - Joy Division (+3 - just great)
Across 110th Street - Bobby Womack (0)
Runaround Sue - Dion and the Belmonts (0)
Who Knows Where the Time Goes? - Fairport Convention (+1 - a band I unexpectedly liked)
Band of Gold - Freda Payne (+2 - great song, although I might prefer the Marcia Griffiths version)
It was a Good Day - Ice Cube (+1 - a bit kickass)
Summer Wind - Frank Sinatra (0)
Beasley Street - John Cooper Clarke (0)
We the People Who Are Darker than Blue - Curtis Mayfield (+3 - sublime)
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Darlene Love (+1 - I'm not the greatest fan of the Spector Christmas album but it's all good)

B

There's a lot of stuff on both lists that I'm completely unfamiliar with, so by virtue of familiarity...

I'm also going for A, it seems to be an actual list of favourites with songs I enjoy more, not a list geared to win a BCB Cup. And the fact people are forgetting is that list A has New Noise on it. A fucking massive tune!
