i think this is the first tie when i knew instantly who both of the competitors were, and it's finely balanced. i'm going to have to give this one some careful consideration.

I like A's soul selections but am underwhelmed by the rest .
As for B i'm bloody bored of seeing JAMC -if you're gonna pick em at least go for something exciting like Never Understand. Still he's been bangin' on about them on the board for long enough, so I'll let him get away with it. B's a bit hit and miss but is more adventurous than last year.

Ok it's B, it's the Curtis, KLF and Donovan selections wot won it.

edit: I was probably too harsh in saying I was underwhelmed by some of A's selections, a more honest response would've been I haven't heard dillard and clark or Townes Van Sant - I'd like to hear this as a comp definitely, but I'll stick with my original decision.

I wish I could vote for both of them but since I can't (or can I, would anybody notice?) A because of Stand Down Margaret.

A had some great tracks already and adds a pretty fine extra 5, though I don't know Matthew Sweet the others are great.

Joe Tex - Show Me
Townes Van Zandt - Like A Summer Thursday
Matthew Sweet - Evangeline
Jr Walker & The All-Stars - Road Runner
The Beat - Stand Down Margaret

B had a damn fine list first time up as well and deserves another shot at the prize. The fresh 5?

The Dark End Of The Street – James Carr GREAT
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face – Johnny Cash DON'T KNOW IT BUT SOUNDS INTRIGUING
Amsterdam – UNPOC WHAT'S THIS?
Just Like Honey – Jesus & Mary Chain SECOND OR THIRD BEST JAMC SONG. AND WHO CARES IF THERE'S BEEN LOTS OF THEM
(Don’t Worry) If There’s A Hell Below, We’re All Going To Go – Curtis Mayfield GOOD

I'll give it to A but fine lists both of them.

I only know about half the songs on either list, but my preferences tend toward B's.

B it is.

The George Harrison and Gil-Scott Heron choices are particularly good.

(You really need to hear this song, either in the original or in Velvet Crushes brilliant cover!)

A for me.

Besides, I already voted for B, and we can't have us voting for the same list, can we?

A

It's painful to vote 'against' "Visions of Johanna" and "A Change Is Gonna Come", but the other list on the whole is just better. Not really amazed by the new five on either list. "Evangeline" is pretty sweet, though.

These have been quite difficult decisions lately.
