This really isnt sour grapes but how did either of these two lists get through the first round? Is "The Time Has Come" supposed to be "Time Has Come Today"? And who would chose the Love Affair over the Robert Knight original?
For having the right names (if the wrong tracks) I'll go for B.

A is absolutely bloody mad but very loveable, despite the fact that I voted against it last time. B has some wonderful obvious classics but its leftfield stuff is just alien to me, sadly.
A, for the abandon and 2pac but I don't know how it'll fare against a list I really like.

Poetry & Jazz = John Otway

Hope There's Someone = Antony & The Johnsons
Atmosphere = Joy Division
another close one for me but it has to be A, despite B's valiantly and admirably idiosyncratic honesty.

Happy together - The Turtles
A classic example of development of a theme over the course of three minutes, this has more fun with the pleasures of the hypotetical than with the music itself...at least until the final climatic burst. Calculated? Sure, but so is the rest of the song, and they worked out the equation +4
Virginia plain - Roxy Music
Dazzling, dizzying, has there ever been a greater "calling card" single than this one? Within 3 minutes, pop music is turned on its head, Ferry scatting the words like time was running out. It's the future, in all its retro glory, a celebration of (Pop) Art in abandon. What's her name?

What becomes of the broken hearted - Jimmy Ruffin
Ruffin asks the question, his voice a deep well of hurt and regret pushing its way through to the other side. Perhaps he never had the gravity of Levi Stubbs, but there's the same sense of weight to the song, even as he soars. Magical, mystical. +4
Guns of Brixton - The Clash
Simoneon's first stab at songwriting is just that, but sometimes effort (and sincerity) is half the point. Attacking the song with a forcesome verve, he extends on the band's (self)mythology, adding an extra dimension in the scratchy groove and blankfaced vocal. +3
California love - 2 Pac
Forget about the shameless graveplundering, the grooves on this are enough to forgive most things. The sound, shall we have it, of a man brought alive by the cleverest producer in the world at that very time, the funk hits deep

A by several lengths
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.
