A is strong (as would be expected of a finalist). B has:
David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes
Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever
Go-Betweens - Cattle and Cane
DJ Shadow - High Noon
Talking Heads - This Must Be the Place
Tom Waits - Tom Traubert's Blues
REM - Pretty Persuasion
Pixies - Wave of Mutilation
but it is the last few tracks that really do it for me:
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Who'll Stop the Rain?
Radiohead - Fake Plastic Trees
Sigur Rós - Svefn-G-Englar
The Cure - Pictures of You
Therefore B

i'm genuinely surprised by your comment there, paul.
you're suggesting that a list which contains a dreadful split enz track, a mediocre weezer song, an over-rated dj shadow track, the cars, tom waits and the velvettes (nice, but there are at least 30 motown songs which are better) is - by a million miles - better than a list that contains fantastic songs from the likes of gang of four, undertones, sly stone, wreckless eric, the velvet underground, bowie, the impressions, joy division, suicide, the temptations and the only ones.
of course, i've put a lot of spin on both lists with that comment and i might well end up voting for the second list myself, but there's no more than a ciggy paper between them.

I can't work out why my list (when went out ages ago) had more brilliance on it than these two put together. Still, no accounting for tastes, is there?

i disagree with a number of your judgements (to hold "heroes" and "damaged goods", in particular, as less than utterly fantastic is really rather silly), but it's all in the eye of the beholder in the end, of course.

Heroes is all right I suppose. Gang of Four are dull though.

well, we're not supposed to know so it would be terribly poor form if we told you.
(also, i've no idea who one of them is anyway

I'm voting B, but it is primarily for songs by Beatles, Bowie, and Talking Heads that are favorites (or maybe third favorite in the case of "Strawberry Fields") by those stellar acts. There's a lot on both lists that isn't very interesting to me. Pick and choose between the two, and you'll have something killer. Maybe something approaching the quality of Heilan Coo's list.
