Re: BCB Cup 2014 - R4, M3
Both have some excellent tracks but also have trouble finding new additions that work. I guess A, without too much enthusiasm, largely thanks to the great Byrds choice, which has not been replaced.

I like that B takes chances, but I think that Jimmy Castor Bunch track was a mistake and unfortunately this swings it to a mighty solid A

Re: BCB Cup 2014 - R4, M3
A has the right mix of quirk and classic.
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.
Re: BCB Cup 2014 - R4, M3
Find it hard to fault A, maybe it is still lacking that knock-out punch, but it's pretty much wall to wall goodness.
B has something desperate about it, its eclecticism seems rather clueless. Some of it works, some of it doesn't.

B has some great stuff but A hangs together much more convincingly. Really shaping up nicely.

A is safe-ish but mostly good. Motorhead is as Motorhead does. No real love or loathing but if you have but ten tracks to thrill, impress, move, astound etc etc etc then Lemmy ain't gonna cut it.

Very 80s and pretty not hugely memorable, the cocteaus did that so much better, but so did the Sundays.
The End - Cardboard Watch link barrel scraping psyche
Honey & The Bees - Love Addict link barrel scraping soul
Liquid Liquid - Optimo link When does test match special start
The Everly Brothers - I'm On My Way Home Again link
The Byrds - If You're Gone link never really got the Byrds apart from the obvious ones a band whose imitators were often superior
Where crate diving meets barrel scraping some of that

List B
You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) - Sylvester link
Positive Vibrations - The Soft Boys link OK nothing special
The Lord of the Manor - The Everly Brothers link terrible everley brothers song
Soul Pad - The Coasters link
Overkill - Motörhead link
I'm Nobody's Baby Now - Reparata & The Delrons link
What's Golden - Jurassic 5 link
She Gives Me Love - The Godfathers link
Flamenco - Los Brincos link
The Bertha Butt Boogie (Part 1) - Jimmy Castor Bunch link
A little bit of gold in the middle of that list
I'll go B
The desire for novelty in the BCB cup has gone way beyond diminishing returns and has entered a new phase where barrel scraping novelty is hailed simply because it is novel rather than for any intrinsic merit.

I see Copey is from the William Burroughs 'cut up' school of criticism.

A is still a great list.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
