Two real quality lists

A doesn't drop the ball here, it's all pretty good stuff, I'm probably least enthused about the Big Star, nothing against the band but that one is pretty bland. Elsewhere it picks my favourite Curtis track and 801 is a nice surprise. I'm familiar with most of it which takes the edge off it a bit for me, but it's still top stuff.

B on the other hand is less consistent ( for all his cult reputation, that Lee Hazlewood track could be a 1969 eurovision entry), it doesn't all hit home for me. On the other hand, I'm going to be predisposed to any list that has Linda Perhacs and The Attack, also ' Sheldon Churchyard' is a great pick (I think I remember it from one of those country funk comps).

This is very tight, but what swings it for me is B introduces me to the 5 Spiritual Tones track which is so up my street that it's now squatting on my sofa.

Difficult. I like 80% of A, I'd lose The ISB and Clean but the rest is very good. Like Jennings there's nowt that is that new to me but that's not a crime. The 801 track is just this side of good, it reminds me of Harmony of the Spheres a bit.

B's is a more personal selection, it has it's obscurities but they are big-boned, no-apology ones.

B simply for showing me something new but bad luck A.

Again, not an awful lot wrong with these lists. A is solid and consistent but doesn't take enough chances. Any chances at all, in fact. B could also do with venturing "out there" a bit more, but it's got more variety and interest to it here.

A's good in a BCB Cup 2009 kinda way. B has a couple of nice songs I've never heard before (Sheldon Churchyard and Bad Situation) that shows me it's got some surprises up its sleeves.

Despite defeating me last round, I do really like list A. But list B has the Knife. So...no vote yet. Time for a listen off, I guess. I'll edit in my vote once I've listened to both lists back to back.

B may be the best list left.

I was never too keen on 'What's Going Ahn' - I prefer Big Star when they sparkle. Otherwise - nice list A!

B is also very good. I only just heard 'Califia' recently and love it. The Beach Boys' track is a personal fave and that's one mighty Lou Reed song.

I really don't think I can decide as it's so close. Sorry!

EDIT: fuck it, it's

The trouble with B is that the Attack track is nothing special and it's followed by a direly-overrated Lou Reed pomposity. The Larry John Wilson song is great. However,

A

is simply riddled with good stuff

MY ANSWER AFTER CONDUCTING A LISTEN OFF...

A does seem to be track by track above average stuff and consistency. It's solid and as I said last round -- a very BCB winning list.

But B is more interesting.

And I feel for B.

My list too, was "interesting" and so it came to pass that A snuffed it out in it's mere infancy...leaving it's "interesting" potential forever unrealized.

So once again we see list A being uninterestingly good astride another "interesting" seeming list.

I accepted my fate last round with nary a whimper because frankly if I ever won this thing I'd know with certainty that I had sold out entirely.

B...you don't really want to win this thing at all do you? I understand totally. Winning is a sure fire sign that you're a sell-out tool, a heartless, soulless player in a killing field of mangled ambition, unrealized potential and "interesting" choices.

So sorry B. But you are fucked. More interesting means squat in this thing ultimately. A will win with his formulaic list of safe choices.

In the end it came down to me deciding based on what I really LOVE about each list.

List A
In The Dreamlife You Need A Rubber Soul - The Clean

List B
The Knife - Silent Shout
My Bloody Valentine - Honey Power
5 Spiritual Tones - Bad Situation

B takes my vote. It's a cursed vote, damning you to join the other "interesting" lists in the carnage of the killing field though. Just realize that.

A is a good list of songs, no doubt about it. But it doesn't sparkle. B does.
