What Have You Discovered? 2014 Edition

Postby PENK » 21 Jan 2014, 08:29

This one from R1M4 has been quite divisive, but I rather like it:

Yeah, that's some great hippy shit.
The whole album is as good...Kenji hipped me to that record
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I haven't come across her or this before (from Match 7).
It wasn't enough to make me vote for that list but I love the backing vocals.

I bought that when it came out. I nearly blew a gasket when the Moody Blues version came out – they ripped off the arrangement, the vocal inflexions, fucking everything, so I hated them even before they went irredeemably shit with all that orchestral stuff. Quite my least favourite band of the 60s – worse than Herman's Hermits, Freddie and the Dreamers - fuck, worse than eveybody

I came here to post that same cut. Shame that list is getting hammered, really. That tie was closer than the scoreline makes it seem; probably the only tie yet with two really good lists.

from R1, M20....

Swung my vote. It was the line about binmen, thin men, lexicographers, Squid yes, not so octopus that won me over fully.

It's was a massive northern soul track that's on most of those compilations, surprised it's not known. Great track though.

That's right, G.
I was watching a Channel 4 documentary last year sometime about the Northern Soul scene...music, dance and culture and first heard the song from there. I just love it.

I'm very pleased people enjoyed it.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I really like this, I didn't pick up on it when the match was first posted. From M11.

This is brilliant from match 16. At 90 seconds the lid comes off.
