Tricky. Real mixed bags, both of them.

There's more I know in A, but it's spoiled by that hideous Townshend thing, something presumably thrown in by a mischievous child to scupper its chances.

B has some nice surprises - a good one from the usually-rubbish Clean, and a nice Chairmen of the Board choice. But the rest - not sure.

I think I'll give it to

A

The Staple SIngers is great of course but it has had its time. Second outing this year FFS and why pick the rather limp Up Up and Away when just about any other 5thD/Webb combination is just majestic. B wins the Webb showdown easily. Kudos for the Beau Brummels pick A, but on balance B takes me to a few more varied and interesting places

2 more interesting and varied lists; some very nice choices but also some not for me. Both have good starts and finishes, but drop a little in the middle in some ways. It's great to see Smiley Lewis bopping around in B, and that might just make the difference.

Another head scratcher, and my least favourite match so far. Not really keen on either. I guess for me there's more to like in

This one's a bit tough, 'cause A plays it pretty safe and doesn't really pack a wallop, but B is just too inconsistent. Aye for Smiley, the Clean, Chairmen and Glen, meh for the power pop thing, nay for Stars and This Mortal Coil.

Playing safe is fine by me, it means I know what I'm getting and it's generally listenable stuff. B

Both nice lists - enjoyed the The Beau Brummels and I love that Sparks song on A

Apologies, b.

Well matched.
Both have some really great parts (A: Aaron Neville, Them, and Beau Brummels...Thank you; B: Smiley Lewis, Glen Cambell)

Tricky.
That Townsend, and campiness should really be penalised properly... but though B is a solid list there wasn't enough in B to scream "Winner" to me.

I vote A.

I'm afraid A just really isn't my bag. Just the kind of music that doesn't fit me, I don't know what to do with it.

B is kind of interesting, with a lovely This Mortal Coil pick, and a couple of tracks (Stars/The Clean) that could grow on me

B
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.
