Paris. Romance, art, music, food, drink, sport, shopping, history and still some mystery. The most incredible city in the world. Almost as wonderful as Manchester.

Aw, really? God, that would be good. Unlikely though. You will have fun though. A lot of it.

London, the current winner, seems to me more like a great place to be rich and successful in. As a tourist, as much as I've wanted to find a way in, I've usually felt rather on the outside when I've been in London (which has been about 10 times starting in 1984). Maybe I just want too much from it.

Seriously it's not, you guys should be proud of it. I could spend a lifetime there and not see everything and each time I've been I've seen something new. For the most part it will be the city that everyone on Bcb could get to and get around with ease and safety, yet still have that flavor of another world.

Of course it's not.

The results of this poll are odd, mind you. Paris is easily as exciting as London, Berlin's up there too. And Nice and HK might be worth visiting, but they're not in the same league as the aforementioned.

Out of the European cities not mentioned, Lisbon and Porto would be my two choices.

Blackpool is without doubt one of the most miserable, life sapping places in the UK.

London is a dreadful city. Dirty, ugly, lacking in grace. I cannot imagine why it is so highly thought of. Yeah, it's got a certain majesty, and great cinemas, but it's ultimately a depressing place.

There is more to London than Soho.

Oh. believe me, London's ugliness stretches way beyond Soho, much as an abomination as it is. It's just all too busy and built up. There's no real design, it's just buildings piled upon buildings without any real purpose. The city gives me a headache. And don't get me started on the underground....I've spent way too much time negotiating that horrid (if efficient) structure.

As a tourist I've always found it to be an endlessly fascinating place, whether it be the established tourist attractions or the streets my wife grew up on, or the areas my late father in law worked in In the 1960s. I love the fact that it is full of life and there is always something new to see or do.

It's no uglier or dirtier than any other equivalent city. It's great for a few days but I'm always quite glad to leave - too many people for me - but it's always a bracing experience.

I agree with Andrew - I've never been too keen on London. There are shitloads of world-class museums, galleries, theatres and cinemas but all of this is offset by the high prices and the stress of just moving around the place. And it isn't a particularly beautiful city - it really IS a mess of styles, just squashed together.

I'd consider living there if I was very rich and could find a nice roomy apartment overlooking the Thames. But this isn't likely to ever happen.

I'll take the 5 boros of NY although NYC has plenty of problems and no history.

Couldn't vote for London because of the BCB biases. Although has all NYC city has and plenty of history. Had no problem getting around though transportation was good enough to get around. Food options endless and good service.
Paris is a great city some beautiful areas and lots of great museums and structures. Transportation was fine, service sucked until we left the city.

Rome Need to go!
Barcelona - great city only spent three days there so didn't see much but don't consider
Berlin - never been I'm sure its nice.
Hong Kong - be there in a few weeks let you know but spending more time elsewhere
Tokyo - want to go!
Rio de Janeiro - will be there most likely next year.
